It is my extreme pleasure to present to you the ISFA 2014 Spring Conference. So many people have worked very hard to create an outstanding conference for you. I am so proud of the job everyone has done and what we have in store for everyone. The level of talent this year is beyond amazing, all being some of AIFD’s finest. Don’t miss Phil Rulloda AIFD, Ann Jordan AIFD, Joyce Mason-Monheim AIFD, Rick Orr AIFD and one of AIFD’s newest inductees Bitsy Carter.ISFA has been truly an rewarding journey for myself, and as I end my reign as President, I can’t help but reflect on all the great times I have had. The life-long friendships are the greatest reward for all the long hours I put into this

fine association. I look forward to working under incoming President Michelle O’Neil-Babicky

and see all she has in store for us. Although I will be busy with my companies: Florists Ally and

Festive, and my position as Vice President of South Central AIFD, I am here for not only the

ISFA Board, but all of you. It is only through teamwork and knowledge that we are able to be

successful in this industry that we all love. I highly recommend each of you consider getting involved with your Florists association, the

rewards are countless. I want to thank all of you for your support and trusting in me to serve you

as President. I hope I served you, the association and the floral industry well.Sincerely,Frankie Peltiere AIFD, CFD | 2014 ISFA President

Rick believes that each flower arrangement should be a celebration.

BITSY M. CARTER, AAF, AMF, CFDBitsy Carter, AAF, AMF is design manager/co-owner for Hope Floral in Hope, Arkansas. She is also an

accomplished pianist and musician. Bitsy entered the floral industry in the late 90’s in her family’s flower shop.

Bitsy earned her Arkansas Master Florist certification in 1999 . She has since then developed her skills with

direction from Kevin Ylvisaker, AIFD, Els Hazenburg,AIFD, Marie Ackerman, AIFD, and many others.

Bitsy was inducted into the American Academy of Floriculture (AAF) in 2012 and will be inducted into AIFD in Chicago this

year. She has won the NAFA National Designer of the Year for 2013 and also had the honor of winning the Arkansas Cup in

2010 and 2012. She won 1st place in the Arkansas Flower and Garden Show Professional Florist Table Top Competition and

also the People Choice award. She has competed in Mid-America Invitational and Sylvia Cup. Bitsy is also a board member

of the Arkansas Florists Association. Her work has been featured in Arkansas Bride and At Home Arkansas.

Bitsy has been taught the majority of her design skills from her dad, Wendel, in their family flower shop. Her biggest helper

at the shop is her 14 year old son, Nate. In Bitsy’s “spare” time, she loves being an avid sports mom and playing the piano

for her church and various community events.

TRISHA LOCKE AIFD, CFD, ICPFTrisha received her degree in Ornamental Horticulture from the University of Illinois (U of I) and has over 19

years of experience in the floral industry. She worked 13 years in retail floral shops and was a lead designer

with a focus in special events and weddings. She maintains her connection with the U of I by co-advising

their Student American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD) Chapter, presenting as an artist-in-residence,

and mentoring young talent. In 2007, she was the founding instructor for introductory and advanced floral

design courses at Parkland College in Champaign, IL as part of its floral certificate program.

In addition to being a floral instructor, Trisha is an award-winning freelance floral designer, an accredited member of the

AIFD, a member of the Illinois State Florists’ Association (ISFA), and an Illinois Certified Professional Florist (ICPF). During

her involvement with ISFA, she has been a judge, volunteer, presenter, lead designer for the presidential banquet dinner,

and Designer of the Year. Trisha has enjoyed giving more than 40 demonstrations and workshops to a wide variety of audiences both inside and

outside the floral industry. She also shares her floral talents with others by participating in local and regional fundraising

events such as Petals and Paintings, Nature’s Creative Edge, Iron Florist, and the Parkland College annual gala. These

events raise money for great causes and increase public awareness of floral design as an art form.

PHIL RULLODA, AAF, AIFD, PFCI, CFD

Phil is one of America’s chief evangelists for floral design, celebrating his 51st year as a florist — an

Ambassador of Sentiment. Having amassed an incredible number of awards in national and international

design competitions. Phil has presented more than 500 programs to tens of thousands of professional

florists. He was the 2004 recipient of the Society of American Florists’ Tommy Bright Award in recognition

of his lifetime achievement in floral education and commentary, in 1991 he was the first recipient of

AIFD’s Award of Design Influence and in 2007 Phil and Cathy Hillen-Rulloda were honored and received AIFD’s Award of

Distinguished Service to the floral industry.

He is director of the Southern California School of Floral Design and co-owner of Avante Gardens — florals unique, both

located in Anaheim, California. Phil cites his two primary mentors and sources of inspiration as Silverio Casabar and Buddy

Benz but says, “I learn from everyone I come in contact with.”

Additionally, he says he is not so proud of his own accomplishments, but more considers the measure of his worth by the

many students who have gone on to excel in the industry. His goal has most-importantly been to educate, motivate, and

provide inspiration to his audiences and students. To his many students, he states, “You are my legacy.”

CHRISTIAN KRATSAS

Christian Kratsas has spent several years helping independent retailers and small businesses succeed

with social media, email marketing and online advertising. He was directly responsible for developing

and maintaining the social media presence for several widely-recognized gift stores, helping them to

dramatically grow their fan bases — in one instance adding 1,000 fans in less than two days. Currently,

Christian is the Social Media and Content Manager for SnapRetail.

ANN JORDAN AAF, AIFD, MMFD, FTD EDUCATION CONSULTANT

Ann Jordan has more than 25 years of retail floral experience and has instructed design classes and hands-

on workshops throughout North America. She has studied floral design with some of the greatest designers

in the world and is active in the floral industry.

Enthusiastic and knowledgeable, Ann has impacted the floral industry in many significant ways. She was

most recently inaugurated as the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD) President for the 2012-2013 term, and has

served AIFD previously as Vice President and Secretary. At the world-renowned New York Botanical Gardens, Ann taught

all aspects of floristry to floral design students.

Other career accomplishments include having her designs featured in Florists’ Review, and she has participated in many

AIFD programs including the AIFD booth at the famed Philadelphia Flower Show. Ann’s presentation entitled River Run

on the main stage was highlighted at the 2008 AIFD National Symposium and she was on the design team for President

George W. Bush’s Inauguration in 2005. She also placed third in the AIFD Holland Cup Competition in 2004 and received

the John A. Valentine Award presented by FTD® in 2000.

Not only is Ann recognized in the floral industry for her creative skills, but she is also known in her community as a

business leader and prominent floral designer, having been nominated the Maine Small Business of the Year in 2004. Ann

incorporates her past accomplishments with the latest trends into all of her teachings.

These are just a few of the areas where allopathic symptom-reactive systems are delivering less than stellar

results. CKP acknowledges these issues as a human, societal and economic imperative, and the current medical

model must be rethought, repaired, revalidated and reengineered. GOALS AND IMPLEMENTATION• CKP aims to enroll (and support) fourteen families in as many as five locations. Up to seven families will be

featured in the documentary film.

2• The ultimate goal of CKP is to help families in their quest to achieve the greatest health potential for their children.

• A secondary goal of the program is to document and track successes and challenges of children as they

recover from chronic illness so that others may benefit from this knowledge. Dr. Martha Herbert, MD, PhD of

Harvard Medical School and Dr. Russell Jaffe, MD, PhD ELISA/ACT Biotechnologies, PERQUE LLC and Health

Studies Collegium will serve as “Medical Mentors” to the program participants (clinicians, health coaches and

families) and will lead translational science opportunities that emerge out of the project. Data gathered from

CKP may be utilized to create prevention-based models of wellness, with the long-term goal of reducing total

disease burden in this country. • Each family will be paired with a Clinical Care Coordinator, who will be operating under the guidance and

support of a team of Medical Mentors, and a Health Coach to help them navigate their way through the many

healing challenges and obstacles. • CKP will ensure that families are provided pro bono with a variety of healing and recovery services including,

but not limited to: — Personalized Nutritional Support (including whole, organic, biodynamically-sourced food and

supplementation if warranted)— Comprehensive and Cutting-Edge Laboratory and Developmental Assessments— Non-toxic Personal and Home Products— Environmental Assessments— Personalized Therapeutic Modalities— Emotional/Spiritual Support• CKP healing services will be provided for 18 months.• The lessons learned from this program will be documented on film and in a published manual, and online

resources will be made available to the public.• Translation science activities lead by our medical experts will be a crucial component of our transformational

communication strategy.

WHO IS BEHIND THE CANARY KIDS PROJECT?CKP brings together a coalition of parents, practitioners, scientists, research and health organizations and experts
