FORWARD
Juicing is becoming very popular in society these days as
people in general have a greater awareness as to the
benefits of juicing. It is often said by those who do it that
they look and feel so much better for it.
Then, on the other hand there are those amongst us who
would do juicing a bad turn by claiming that “It is no good
for us!” Sadly I fear it is because they have been
misinformed about the whole subject.
It is one that I hold very close to my heart ever since my
accident. Just in case you did not read the site properly I
will very briefly tell you my story -
http://naturallyloseit.org
I was 28 when the worst luck was set to befall me. I was
pottering about in the garden when whhoopp suddenly
and out of nowhere I slipped on a pool of wet soil and
smashed my head on the edge of a low wall. Right on the
corner.
I knocked myself out and to cut a long story short I awoke
13.5 weeks later in a hospital bed. I knew right away that I
had done something terrible but had no clue about the
time that had elapsed.
I spent a further 2 years in rehabilitation care where they
basically encouraged me to walk again as I could no longer
walk and was confined to a wheel chair. This was due to
the surgery I had removing two blood clots from my brain.
To make matters worse I could no longer move my right
arm much at all and it served no practical use what so ever.
Finally after living under my sisters roof for 8 months I was
provided with my own flat in which I still reside.
Slowly I began to pile on the weight which was due to the
inactivity I faced, living, as I did, in my wheel chair every
waking hour.
Over a 3 year period I went from a modest 11 stone.(156
lbs) to a great big 16 stones and 3 lbs (227 lbs) I was
horrified by the weight that I had become and so I vowed
to do something about it.
CHAPTER 1
THIS IS WHERE JUICING PLAYED A CRUCIAL PART
Now some people have a problem with juicing based on
the fact that they do not understand anything about it and
its benefits. You can add practically any fruits or vegetables
to create the juice of your choice. And we all know that
vegetables are good for us yes?
Now you will find in this book the information needed to
select different mixes for different benefits. With the
hundreds and hundreds of different juicing recipes that are
available to you, you will be sure to find one for Yourself
that you really like so that you will repeatedly make it over
and over again, topping up on all the vitamins* and
minerals* that the body ideally needs.
After you begin to start juicing it really will not take very
long to start noticing improvements in both the way you
look and feel. Your skin and hair will noticeably improve
whilst your mood in general will be a lot brighter and you
will feel so much less irritable.
This is not to mention the decrease in weight you you will
most definitely be undergoing. You too can take advantage
of the benefits that juicing will bring you just as I have, and
following this are going to be some amazing healthy fruits.
CHAPTER 2
Many people are under the incorrect asumption that
juicing is just some craze and the “fad” will soon die out,
but as you will see in the fruits that follow there are just
too many vitamins* and minerals* to be gained from
drinking them for it to be just a craze. How can something
so healthy be only temporary. If you want to improve your
health on a regular basis then juicing is most definitely the
way to go on.
The more that people learn about juicing then the more
they will want to take up this hobby that is incredibly
beneficial for not only your physical appearance but for
your mental state of mind as well.
As long as we stay away from these sugary drinks that are
NO GOOD FOR US then with the aid of these healthy drinks
we will live a longer, more fruitful and happier life.
Fruit and vegetables as we know are immensley full of
nutritional elements. A juicer is nothing less than a way to
turn all of these nutrients* from a solid form into that of a
liquid one.
And so its major advantage has to be that you are still
ingesting all of the nutrients* that the body so desires but
in liquid form.
Making a juice for yourself, I'm sure you would agree is far
easier, and, happens to be much quicker than the time
taken in preparing and then cooking food, when you can
just do a quick juice and most probably get more goodness
from it anyway.
CHAPTER 3
JUICING FOR WEIGHT LOSS
Why not just eat fruit and vegetables I hear you say. Well it
is not really the practical option to do so as the amount of
nutrients* required by the body that are provided in just
one juice is such that a massive amount of the delicious
ingredients would have to be consumed. An impossible
amount in fact.
Even though I endorse eating healthily it seems far easier
to me to just drink a juice and have done rather than
preparing and cooking the food stuff.
With all of the bodies vitamins* and minerals* taken in you
are far less likely to feel hungry as the body will feel less
obliged to look for these in further food sources. So when
you eat less of the bad stuff you lose weight, FACT .
And the body will be more balanced on account of it having
received plenty of its required vitamins*and minerals*.
Please remember you only have one life and you only have
this one body! Therefore the body should be taken care of,
no doubts. This is where, as I have previously stated,
juicing comes into play.
CHAPTER 4
SOME DELICIOUS JUICES
Further on in this Ebook are some delightful 100% healthy
recipes for you to try out at your leisure. They will contain a
variety of ingredients all of which contain those very
valuable minerals* and nutrients* which we really do need
in order for us to perform at our optimum level of
efficiency. I say valuable because in an ideal world our
body is meant to contain these vitamins* and minerals*
but most of todays foodstuffs are severly lacking in them.
Nothing quite beats that feeling of consuming something
that you prepared, right? I guess it is just like cooking? Well
you can soak up all that is required and gain the
satisfaction of knowing that you did it.
First of all
HERE IS A SIMPLE ONE TO START YOU OFF...THE CARBEET.
THE CARBEET
The ingredients
TWO WHOLE BEETROOTS
4 FULL CARROTS
HALF A WHOLE LEMON
HALF OF A THUMB SIZED PIECE OF GINGER
Top up to the amount you want with fresh still or
sparkling water.
This is just a very easy one to make for your first attempt.
The beetroot is an amazing food as it contains a particular
kind of nitrate which is excellent for managing/regulating
and even lowering your blood pressure should it be high.
The carrot is another fantastic food stuff indeed. We have
all heard when we were a child that carrots help you to see
better right, there's actually truth to be taken from that. It
contains a quantities of something called Beta- Carotene*
Now the liver converts this into vitamin A* which in turn is
converted by the retina to Rhodopsin* which is responsible
for your night vision. You see I bet you never new any truth
existed behind that childhood saying?
THE PARADISO
The ingredients
HALF OF A PINEAPPLE
4 STAR FRUITS
1 LARGE BEETROOT (OR 3 SMALL ONES)
4 ORANGES
TOP UP WITH SPARKLING OR STILL WATER FOR ANY
EXTRA AMOUNT.
It is said the Star fruit is responsible for lowering
cholesterol*. They also hydrate and give a consistency to
your faeces. The leaves of the plant are used in treating
headaches and chicken pox.
The Pineapple has been thought for a long time to possibly
aid in the shrinking of certain types of tumours when it is
ingested, as it contains Bromelain* (which is also a good
dietary supplement) and it is reported to aid in the
digestion process as well. It is also a great antioxidant* and
it also helps to aid the immune system.
It also contains a lot of the vitamin B* Thiamin as well as
the mineral Manganese*. This is very important for the
body as it helps with energy production and antioxidant*
defences.
The “pina” or pineapple as it is more commonly known has
too many benefits to list including many minerals* and
vitamins*. But just know that this juice is exceptionally
healthy for your physical well being.
You really will feel like you are in paradise when you are
drinking this juice. It is so delicious and is absolutely ideal
for a lovely hot summers day.
CHAPTER 5
FRUITS AND THERE BENEFITS
For chapter 5 I'll give you the medical positives of 15 fruits
and let you decide which ones you wish to try. You are sure
to find a delicious combination and if/when you forget
their health benefits simply return to this Ebook.
FRUIT NUMBER 1
Bananas
Technically these should not be on the list because they are
not made for juicing. I added them because they are very
very beneficial to us and they take pride of place. They are
in first for this reason.
They are absolutely loaded with the vitamins C*, K* and
B6*. However the majority of the vitamin K* can be found
right down in the tip of the banana and I for one used to
throw that not so pleasant bit away. Not any more.
They are an amazing food for the body in 3 major ways.
They are a very high food source of the mineral potassium*
which can help to regulate blood pressure* and in doing so
reducing the risk of heart attacks and strokes in people.
FRUIT NUMBER 2
Cranberries
Well for one thing they are red and red as we should know
by now signifies one thing for certain. They are a rich
source of, yes you guessed it, Antioxidants*. They are also
a very rich source of the vitamins E*, C* and K*.
They provide you with a large amount of inflammatory
benefits which includes from the mouth all the way down
to the colon. The anti inflammatory properties of these
little red gems are also great for your heart health as it can
help to reduce stress on the heart and keep the blood
vessels around it healthy.
They also contain something called Resveratrol* which is
widely known in the anti ageing field of study and is
thought of as a major benefit.
Yet again another benefit of this lovely food is their ability
to hinder the cold and flu (Cold like) symptoms which we
have all suffered from at one time.
A final benefit is their super ability in fighting urinary tract
infections as most women will tell you. They are a great
preventitive measure against thrush and such like!
FRUIT NUMBER 3
Lemons and Limes
Lemons and limes are full of antioxidants* which are of
particular benefit to us humans as they aid in the fight
against certain cancers. These being mouth, colon, skin,
stomach and lung. A really big benefit.
Lemons and limes are available to you all year round so it
really doesn't matter what time of the year you want to
start your juicing with these fruits.
With the cancer fighting properties these contain they
actually stop and disrupt the cancers cell division which in
turn stops the evil disease from spreading.
Lemons and limes are also a very good source of vitamin
C* for you. This as we me or may not know is one of the
most important antioxidants in all of nature. Vitamin C* is
water - soluble and has been proven to treat some of the
symptoms of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Two
very painful and mobility limiting ailments.
FRUIT NUMBER 4
Prunes
Prunes although not the most pleasant of subjects, are an
excellent reliever of constipation. They are what is
considered to be called a mild laxative.
The reason being is that they contain masses of fibre* and
something called Sorbitol* is present, and the natural
laxative compound called Diphenyl Isatin*. They work well
all the way up and down the digestive tract and can help it
run at its optimum rate.
These do contain some calories but they “dried plums” also
contain type 2 diabetes* and cancer fighting properties.
Prunes along with actual plums can also help lower your
cholesterol*. They do this by absorbing all of the excess bile
in the intestine which is then excreted.
They are also a fantastic source of the vitamin K* and Beta
Carotene* and when these two are combined they serve
the body well in the anti - ageing process.
FRUIT NUMBER 5
Blueberries
Blueberries are the number 1 deliverer of antioxidants* in
the fruit world. Although they are practically lacking in
fibre* they are only 35 calories* which is very good when
using a lot for your healthy juice as they will not add to
your weight.
There have been tests done that show that blueberries
reduce the risk of ageing diseases like Parkinson's* and
Alzheimer's* disease. This is very positive indeed.
Yet another great positive about blueberries is that they
are not affected by the freezing process and can therefore
be frozen for up to a whole year. If you haven't got the
room to store them then fear not as frozen blueberries can
be purchased all year round.
FRUIT NUMBER 6
Cherry
A cherry weighs in a just 46 calories. It contains some
fibre*, Folate* and Potassium*. There is the antioxidant
Anthocyanin to be found in these fruits. It contains more of
this strong antioxidant than any other fruit in existence.
It is especially good at decreasing the pain levels in
sufferers of gout and arthritis. (Ailments) So why not add
them to your diet as a preventative measure for later life.
As we are aware cherries have a distinctive deep red colour
and this comes from flavanoids* which are one of the most
powerful antioxidants*.
FRUIT NUMBER 7
Avocado
Now the avocado is a good provider of fibre* and it
contains a lot of vitamin E*. Now it does contain fat but
fear not it is a harmless one. In fact it could be classed as a
good fat. Details can be found on the website that is
provided for you. website http://naturallyloseit.org ) It is a
mono - unsaturated fat* and these fats are as I said, good
fats. These fats can actually help to lower cholesterol*
levels in the body.
They are considered to be one of the most healthy fruits on
earth as they contain 25 essential vitamins and minerals.
They contain the vitamins A*,B*,C*,E*and K*.
With this fruit containing vitamin E* is is very healthy for
the heart. It contains Glutathione* ( a vitamin E)
They also contains an amount of Sitosterol* which can help
bring the bloods cholesterol* level down too.
Avocados are also fantastic for regulating blood pressure*
on account of the fact that they contain potassium*.
FRUIT NUMBER 8
Blackberry
Each seed that makes up a blackberry adds a little extra
pectin* and dietary fibre to the nutritional value of these
great foodstuffs.
As they are made up of lots and lots of little drupelets*
and each one of them contains a seed it means that this
food is one of the highest natural fibre providers on earth.
This helps to make them one of my top fruits for juicing.
Pectin* is a water soluble fibre and can help prevent
against various forms of cancer not least the prostrate.
It is also a useful anti – inflammatory as well as that fact
that it fights the good fight against cholesterol*.
FRUIT NUMBER 9
Apple
The humble apple is widely eaten amongst us but I bet you
weren't aware of some of the benefits that this delicious
fruit has to offer us?
Apples too are full of pectin*. And, now, although brushing
your teeth is still very much recommended eating apples
does stimulate the production of saliva and this in turn
helps to fight tooth decay. So in other words eating apples
is great for your teeth.
They are also believed to aid in the prevention of the onset
of Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases.
As well as this massive benefit it curbs many forms of
cancers*. A major plus for eating these is especially the
reduction of those people tested that went on to develop
pancreatic cancer*.
FRUIT NUMBER 10
Grapes
These are a very very popular fruit and the contain lots and
lots and lots of vitamins* and minerals*. It is obvious that
is why so many of us include them in our diets. Some
varieties contain edible seeds and some do not.
Grapes contain an amount of resveratol too and as we
know it is great for anti ageing and really is one of the
most powerful antioxidants.
Excluding wine making of course they also come in the
forms of sultanas and raisins. These two really should not
be juiced. And mixing wine with various other fruits really
does not make for a nice juice at all.
Another great thing about the grape is that it contains zero
cholesterol. They also contain Anthocyanins* which is yet
another powerful antioxidant. These are present in the red
grape.
Catechins* which are another antioxidant are also present.
They are found in the green grape variety. They are known
to have very favourable health protecting benefits.
FRUIT NUMBER 11
Pomegranate
The pomegranate has been classed as an actual super
food. Very healthy for you. (remove seeds before blending
but juicing is alright obviously) Unless you don't mind
drinks with bits in.
The fruit is on the moderate side of calories contained and
it is a really good source of soluble and insoluble dietary
fibres*
Nutritionist actually suggest the use of this fruit in weight
loss attempts and in attempts to control your level of
cholesterol.
It serves you well giving some protection to cancer and it
can also improve the individuals circulation*!
There are also certain compounds such as Grenatin B* and
Punicalagin* that are contained within this great fruit that
can reduce the risk of heart disease by getting rid of the
evil free radicals* from the human body.
FRUIT NUMBER 12
Pears
Pears, yet another amazing healthy fruit on my list to try. It
is the best of both words. In its solid state it is as crunchy as
an apple but as juicy as the orange. In liquid form you get
the delicious taste and all of its goodness.
Your optimum level of health can be taken up to a new
level when you begin to ingest these fruits on a regular
basis. They are full of dietary fibre*, vitamins* and
minerals*. It is thought by certain health professionals that
taking pears on a regular basis can help to protect you
from cancer* of the colon*.
They contain good amounts of vitamin C* and moderate
amount of vitamin A*, B* and Beta Carotene*. (To which I
have previously alluded too.)
They are also a good source of the minerals magnesium*,
potassium*, copper*, and Iron* as well as some B –
complex vitamins*.
FRUIT NUMBER 13
Grapefruit
The delicious grapefruit is a really good fruit to serve up in
your juices. Not only does it taste great but it is very rich in
Vitamin A* and that Beta – Carotene*.
It is really really low in calories but it is very rich in pectin*.
This dietary fibre helps to bind the cancer causing
substances in the colon* too.
Vitamin A* is essential in helping to produce the mucus
membrane in the skin.
It is also an excellent source of vitamin C* as with most
fruits. This contains a lot. It also contains another powerful
antioxidant called Lycopene* which helps to protect us
from the harmful ultra – violet rays of the sun and offers up
some protection against prostrate cancer*.
This is a really good fruit as are the others to have in your
juices.
FRUIT NUMBER 14
Apricot
My goodness this truly is one of my favourite fruits and I
cannot begin to tell you how thrilled I am to include this in
my top 15 fruits to put in a juicer drink.
These truly scrumptious fruits are rich in minerals, dietary
fibre, vitamins, antioxidants*, vitamin A* and Beta –
Carotene*.
The minerals* that they contain are zinc*, manganese*,
potassium*, calcium* and iron*. All very important for the
body but often they are neglected. Bringing your juicing to
the table ensures that you ingest plenty of these minerals*.
They are excellent in the prevention of macular
degenerative disease* further on in life.
So try introducing them to some one you know who is
advancing in his/Her years. Juicing would be a great way to
include this amazing fruit in your/Their diet.
FRUIT NUMBER 15
GooseBerries
These berries are grown in the temperate climate of some
of Europe. They too are very very low in the calorie
department They are a moderate supplier of vitamin C*
and carry small amounts of vitamin A*.
When they are eaten or drank fresh they will contain some
vitamin B's* which the body will absorb in order to
replenish its levels of, as it has to get this from external
sources.
On the next page I will draw my conclusions as to why you
should partake in juicing to improve health. This will be
followed by 5 great tasty recipes for you to try at home.
Enjoy !!!

GLOSSARY OF TERMS
The following will explain the asterixed words to you-
VITAMINS - There are two types of these. Fat soluble
and water soluble. They are an organic compound and a
vital nutrient that organisms require in limited amounts.
When the body cannot synthesize it in enough quantities it
really needs to be gained from either supplements, the
right foods or JUICES.
FAT SOLUBLE VITAMINS - Fat soluble vitamins can
be found in many fatty foodstuffs such as oily fish, vegetableoil and dairy products. The fast soluble vitamins are A,D,Eand K.
WATER SOLUBLE VITAMINS - Water solublevitamins are not stored by the human body so they need tobe acquired more frequently. Should you ingest to many ofthese then fear not as the body will just pass the exessaway when urination takes place. Generally these watersoluble vitamins are not considered as harmful.
MINERALS - What a mineral is, is a naturally occuring
substance. It is solid and inorganic. It is usually abiogenic.
This means it does not result from the activity of other
living organisms. The minerals that are considered
essential for us humans are –
• Magnesium
• Calcium
• Sodium
• Sulphur
• Potassium
• Chlorine
• Phosphorous
• Chromium
• Iron
• Zinc
• Cobalt
• Iodine
• Copper
• Selenium
NUTRIENTS - There are nutritional componants to food
that we need to grow and indeed survive. The nutrients
that you will get more of from these healthy juices will
help not only to build but also repair the bodies
tissue. They also assist the body in regulating its processes
and they are converted to and used for energy. A
shortage of any kind of nutrient is called a deficiency.
BETA - CATOTENE - It is a very good and safe source of
vitamin A* The difference between food based Beta
Carotene and supplemented Beta Carotene is that with
the food based the body only absorbs as much as it
needs. It is a great antioxidant*. Some food sources that
are rich in Beta Carotene are -
Apricots
Asparagus
Brocoli
Sweet potato
Plums
Onions
Peppers
Pumpkin
Spinach
Squash
Peas
Ketchup
Chives
Carrots
Grapefruit
ANTIOXIDANT - An Antioxidant is a substance that
restricts the oxidisation of molecules (this is where they
come into contact with oxygen) They also protect the body
from the damage caused by Free Radicals* which if left to
ravage the body on their own can cause several serious
illnesses. So now you see why these Antioxidants are so
important.
FREE RADICALS - These atoms are believed to accelerate
the progression of Cardio vascular disease (heart disease),
cancer and age related illneses. Fundamentaly your body
does not need or want these as they are unstable and as a
result ricochet of other molecules damaging cells. Not good
on the whole and they are also responsible for accelerating
the ageing process.
CHOLESTEROL - It is a fat like substance found in every
cell of the human body. Your body actually makes all of the
Cholesterol it needs but additional Cholesterol is found in a
variety of foodstuffs.
There are two types of Cholesterol -
There is a type of cholesterol that is very bad for you. (LDH)
This is bad when it builds up in your arteries giving rise to
someone having “High Cholesterol”.
Hdl Cholesterol is a good Cholesterol as it carries the LDH
Cholesterol back through the body to the liver, the liver -
then completely removes it from our bodies.
I am going to extend this part on cholesterol as though it in
no more important a subject than the others mentioned it
is none the less important as many concerns are raised
with regards to the issue of “high” Cholesterol
High Cholesterol is where you have have too much
Cholesterol in your blood. What's awful about this
condition is that it has zero symptons so a lot of people go
undiagnosed.
So, basically the higher the LDH is in your bloodstream the
greater the chances of you getting heart realted diseases
or even heart disease itself! Withe coronary heart disease
there is a build up of calcium, fat and cholesterol (often
referred to as plak) This also restricts the blood flow.
VITAMIN A - This vitamin is often referred to as retinol. It
greatly aids the immune systetm in its ability to ward of
infections. Also it can improve the eyesight to see more
clearly in low level light.
Some good food source of this vitamin are -
Oily fish
Cheese
Milk and yoghurt
Fortified low fat spreads
Eggs
RHODOPSIN - Rhodopsin is an organic compound and is
sometimes referred to as a visual pigment. When there is
light present the protein opsin is then activated by our
bodies. This then allows the retinol (Vitamin A) To bind to it
so the creation of this is called Rhodopsin. This further goes
on to explain why there is a brief delay when for example a
bright light is suddenly visible. This “delay” in your
eyesight, all be it brief is the delay one experiences whilst
the rhodopsin is being formulated.
BROMELAIN - The most common use for this is in
medicine. It improves the bodies absorbtion of antibiotics,
helps to relax musle yet is used to induce muscle
contractions as well. It helps to prevent pulmonary ademas
(A build up of water in the lungs) Shortens labor time and it
also help the body to lose fat. Therefore it is a crucial
nutrient.
VITAMIN B - There are several different types of vitamin
B to which Thiamin is included. Good food sources of this
vitamin include -
Eggs
Wholegrain breads
Dried fruit
Fresh fruit
Fruit and vegetables ( especially peas )
Vitamin B in general plays a very important roll in cell
metabolism. They are generally found in foods that have
not been proceessed. The vitamin B is actually a group of
vitamins. There are several of them each with its own
benefits for us humans.
VITAMIN C - Vitamin C is also known as Ascorbic acid and
its major benefit is that it helps to protect cells whilst
keeping them healthy as well. This vitamin is essential for
also keeping the conective tissue of our organs in a fine
state of repair. This is necessary for them to maintain their
structure. This Vitamin also assists in the healing process of
wounds.
VITAMIN K - Vitamin K has numerous important functions
and not least its pivotel role in blood clotting.
Vitamin K can be found in -
Cereal grains
Leafy green vegetables like spinach etc
Vegetable oils
Theoretically one should be able to get all of the vitamin K
that is needed from a balanced diet though very often that
is not the case , which is again where “ Juicing comes into
play”
The great thing about this vitamin is that any that your
body doesn't need immediately is stored making the
requirement to eat/drink it on a regular basis unnecessary.
As with all of the other vitamins you can buy vitamin K
supplements but why go to the expense when you can just
find it in delicious drinks.
VITAMIN E - Vitamin E is a very powerful antioxidant.
This means that it is great four our cell membranes as well
as our eyes, skin and our immune system. It can be found in
a wide variety of foodstuffs such as -
Nuts and seeds Olive oil
Soya Wheat germ (found in cereals)
Again the body stores this vitamin so it is not required
every single day.
MANGANESE - On the whole this mineral is not very well
known when it comes down to its dietary relevance. In fact
it does have a few important roles to play.
We know for certain that low manganese intake is closely
related to poor bone production.
Manganese is also in part required for an enzyme called
prolidase which in turn is responsible for the production
ofcollagen which is vital for every day skin health.
Gluconegenesis is a process whereby the conversion of
such substances like amino acids are converted to sugar.
This is a process that some of our cells frequently and
routinely engage in and they require manganese to do this
efficiently.
Manganese also helps to fight the free radicals about your
body too. So in other words it helps against skin damage,
Asthma and damage done to our cells in general.
BLOOD PRESSURE - It is considered in the medical
profession that the lower your blood pressure is the
healthier you are. How ever it has been known for some
people to have abnormally low blood pressure. If you do
suffer from low blood pressure there is nearly always an
underlying medical condition so you should get your self
checked out.
There are two measurements taken in one test when
calculating your blood pressure. One is taken at the highest
pressure point when the blood leaves the heart and the
second is when the heart is resting before it pumps again.
RESVERATOL - It is a phytoalexin and there are several
different studies presently taking place as to the effects of
resveratol on increasing lifespan. Other than on various
animals (successful trials)
No human trials have yielded any rusults what so ever as
they are all ongoing at the moment. However no negative
side effects have been reported as yet. So basically you
may as well have this too as it is harmless.
FIBRE - Fibre comes exclusively from plants, it is not
present in any meats or dairy products. Fibre cannot be
digested by the human body and it is very good for keeping
us reguluar in the toileting department.
It is what is called a complex carbohydrate which basically
is a sugar. ( Not a bad one) Fibre is bulky so it makes you
feel full as it takes up a lot of room in our stomachs.
High fibre foods also help you to be fuller for longer so they
are a good food to have in any weight loss diet. This is
obviously because if you still feel full you will not be
inclined to snack as frequently.
So therefore it goes without saying that people whose diets
contain a lot of fibre tend to be a lot slimmer.
POTASSIUM - Potassium is a major dietary mineral. It is
needed for the muscles to grow normally. It also helps to
balance the bodies PH levels (Acid/ Alkaline levels). Fruits
and vegetables are the richest source of potassium so get
juicing now. Remember vegetables are very low in calories
and high in vitamin and mineral content.
Vegetables that are high in potassium are -
Spinach
Raw Kale
Asparagus
Green beans
Brussel sprouts
Mushrooms
Zucchini (With skin)
MACULAR DEGENERATIVE DISEASE - This disease is
considered age related. It is usually the slow loss of the
central vision which gradually becomes more and more
blurred. It happens in both eyes but the speed in which it
degenerates may differ in each eye.
It does not cause complete blindness as the
peripheralvision remains.(vision around the outside) of the
eyes (as in you see something moving on the edge of your
visual focus.
ZINC - This element helps to stimulate the activity of a lot
of the bodies enzymes. Only a small quantity of this
element is required for it to act efficiently.
A low level of zinc in a person body leaves them prone to
various ailments. It seriously compromises the immune
system.
A survey in the open Respiratory Medical Journal did show
that treating patients with who had a cold with zinc
lozenges shortened them by up to 40%.
Zinc may also help to protect the skin and the mucose
membranes and when zinz is added to wounds it not only
corrects the levels of local zinc but actually acts
pharmalogically to help to heal them.
PECTIN - Pectin is a water soluble fibre that is of great
benefit to the human body. It is found in many fruits
particularly apples (With the skin on) and oranges. It is
believed to be effective against many forms of cancer.
It is also a very helpful anti inflammatory as it lowers the
production of pro inflammatory antibodies. It is also of
great use as an anti cholerstrol fighter and a stress reliever.
IRON - It must be said that iron is one of the most
important minerals for human health. It is responsible for
the dark red blood colour (when it oxidises out side of the
body) This important mineral carries oxygen to every single
cell in the body.
It to is absorbed by the brain as it is carrying the oxygen to
it anyway. It helps brain development and overall brain
health.
Anemia is the name given to people with a deficiency in
iron. Fear not though this can be cured by juicing high iron
content foodstuffs or in the form of iron supplements. But,
as I said earlier why go to the added expense when you can
make up a simple juice.
Foods with a high iron content are -
Lamb Chicken
Beef Peanuts
Dark chocolate Mussels
Tofu Cashew nuts
Lentils Pork
White beans Fortified cereals
Pine nut Dark leafy greens
Hazel nut Cocoa powder
Pumpkin seeds
Turkey
SORBITOL - This is a bulk sweetener and is found in many
foodstuffs. It isn't cariogenic (causing tooth decay) and
maybe useful to those of us who are afflicted with
diabetes. It has been recognised by GRAS (generally
recognised as safe) and has been approved for use in
Australia, The Europian Union, The U.S.A and others.
It is used in a variety of products as a protection against
the loss of moisture content. It is used in baked goods and
confectionary to stop them drying up.
.This Sorbitol can be used as an alternative sweetener to
sugar especially for people with diabetes. However you
must be made aware that too much Sorbitol can gice a
person diarrhea. Also this “Sugar” does not promote any
tooth decay, as, well all know that normal sugar does.
CALORIES - We have all heard of calories but what exactly
are they? Well by definition a calorie is a unit of energy.
In the past a calorie was a way of/in measuring heat in
engineering for example but nowadays, all you hear it
talked about is when it is related to weight.
There are two forms of calorie measurement. Calories in
and calories out. Calories in is how many of these “units of
energy” you consume and calories out is how many of
these calories are burned off during any exercise/activity
you may do.
A general rule of thumb is that a man requires 2500
calories and a woman 2000 calories per day in order to
maintain the same weight.
A quick word of warning though to those of you who are
counting the calories they consume. That is all fine but
please be aware that some of these low calorie foods hold
very questionable nutritional value.
So what you save in calories you are losing in nutrients
and as this book should prove to you you need nutrients
(minerals and vitamins etc.)
FOLATE - Folate is a water soluble vitamin. It is naturally
present in some foods. It reacts with certain enymes and
assists in the transfer information to amino acids then it
helps with the structuring of DNA and RNA (Which are
nucleic acids and pass on genetic coding)
It also helps with cell division. Folate is stored in the liver
and the RDA (Recommended dietary allowance) of Folate is
400 mcg's (micrograms) for both adult men and women
and if you are pregnant then it is 600 mcg's
CALCIUM - There is a lot of calcium in the human body,
more in fact than any other mineral. It is found in these
foods listed below -
Cheese
Milk and other dairy products
Soya beans
Any soya drink with added calcium
Breads and anything made with flour fortified with calcium
Green leafy vegatables (i.e spinach, Kale etc)
Sardines and Pilchards
It is very good food for healthy bones and healthy teeth. In
a child especially, it helps to strengthen them and in later
life assists in keeping them healthy.
ALZHIEMERS - Alziemer's is without question the most
common form of dementia. Symptoms include
forgetfulness and difficulties in thinking and problem
solving.
There are more than 520000 sufferers in the UK of
Alziemer's disease. During the progression of this disease
proteins build up between brain cells eventually leading to
their loss of connection and this then leads to the death of
the nerve cells and a loss of brain tissue.
Most people who develop this awful disease do so after
the age of 65. However it is known for people under this
age to get it. This is what is referred to as early onset
Alzheimer's
There is currently no cure for this disease, however there is
a lot that can be done to help the sufferer live with the
disease through drugs and activities.
PARKINSON'S - Parkinson's too is unfortunately a
progressive neurological disorder. People who have
Parkinson's do not have enough of a chemical called
Dopamine in their brain. The is due to the fact that nerve
cells in their brain have died. This lack of dopamine limits
the speed of movement so it takes a lot longer to do things.
The symptoms connected to Parkinson's are primarily to do
with movement. Other syptoms include -
The Tremors (Shaking)
Pain
Rigidity (Stiffness)
Sleep problems
Fatigue
RLS (Restless Leg Syndrome)
Swallowing difficulty
Eye problems
Spells of dizziness
Skin issues
Falls
Sweating problems
Feeling cold.
There is not yet a cure for this disease and unfortunately
this disease to will result in the death of the individual.
DIPHENYL ISATIN - This will be very brief on account of
there is very little to say. It is quite simply a laxitive
compound that helps to loosen the stool and makes it far
easier to pass.
TYPE 2 DIABETES - This form of diabetes usually manifests
its self in people around the agae of 40. This type makes up
around 85 – 95 % of all diabetes sufferers.
With this ailment glucose builds up in the blood due to the
fact that there is not being enough insulin produced by the
pancreas in the body.
The hormone isulin has its purpose and that purpose is to
unlock cells so that the glucose can then enter them and be
converted to energy. A person with type 2 diabetes is at a
higher risk level of -
Diseases of the Kidneys, eyes and nerves
Ulcers
Impotence in men
The circulation has to be checked with the use of
something called a dopler. Basically it checks the flow of
blood to the feet as the circulation gets disrupted. It checks
the pulse in the foot to ensure that the blood is going to
the feet.
Glaucoma is something that has to be checked for
regularlarly. When you are diabetic The retina can break
down so trips to the opticians are often and they take
photos of the inner eye. Diabetes destroys the blood cells
at the back of the eye. If left untreated it will result in
blindness. There is currently no cure for this affliction
however there are ways to manage it. Regular check ups
are essential.
