    CHAPTER 1. Introduction1.1 General

JUE-501/JUE-251 is a Inmarsat digital satellite communication t

service, G3FAX and legacy analogue modem service using 64kbp

    (*)UDI/RDI, maximum 432kbps (JUE-501), 284kbps(JUE-251) St

    8kbps, 16kbps, 32kbps, 64kbps, 128kbps and (*)256kbps Stream

Short Messaging Service (SMS). [ (*) JUE-501 only.]

1.2 Above Deck Equipment (ADE)The JUE-501 ADE dimension is 630mm diameter,

    683mm height and 20kg weight.

No rewind (Cable unwrap) 3 axes mechanical

stabilized antenna structure and electrical circuit

are all original design of JRC.

The JUE-251 ADE dimension is 285mm diameter,

    364mm height and 4.7kg weight.

This ADE is JRCs first 2 axes control antenna

    for Inmarsat equipment.

Both ADE can be installed easy, connecting to BDE

    with one coaxial cable.

Fig.1.2 Above 1.3Below Deck Equipment (BDE)

The stylish BDE is developed and designed by JRC.The BDE has a wide range of standard interface and

    functions.

These interfaces allow flexible on-board networking.

2.2.2 ADE block diagram,Below figure is more detail ADE block diagram.

The ADE is composed of the Antenna , GSP antenna, LNA(Low

    (Above Deck Unit).

In JUE-501, the rotary joint is equipped just behind ADU I/O port.

The Antenna is flat antenna with 12 patches, and connecting to th

behind the Antenna with single coaxial cable. The LNA is filterin

from the Antenna and amplifies RX (receiving) signal from the sate

    14/170

then outputs the signal to the LNA. And the RF circuit amplifies R

    the BDE at L-band.

The GPS receiver is to receive the signal from GPS satellites position to decide the antenna elevation angle.

The Rotary Joint is the joint between the ADE and the BDE to p

power to the ADE. The Rotary Joint is adopted to achieve no rewind

    consecutive communication.

The signal tracking system is new technology of JRC Inmarsat

generated in the RF circuit based on two RX signals from the Ant

tracking the satellite in this technology. One is used for the conic

The other is used for the step tracking of elevation.

A gyro signal is also available to track the satellite. The above

when a gyro signal is used for the satellite tracking and the Gyr

    connect ships gyro.

User can change the tracking system simply by Handset.

The JUE-251 has 2 axes control.

The rotary joint is equipped between antenna and LNA.

The electrical unit and the function is same as JUE-501.

A 40V (2.5W) power is provided for ISDN phantom power.

T60407-M5014-X002 from Vaccumschmelze is used. The phanto

protection provid 2.5W for a TE. External circuitry to the tr

provide impedance matching, and surge protection. The isolation

The ISDN transceiver is a PSF21150 from Infineon. Its D chan

interface (SCI) to core processor in CM and B channels are routed t

    (2)Ethernet

One RJ45 port on interface board is used as 10/100Base-T Ethern

up to 100 meters without external driver hardware.

    (3) SIMThe SIM interface meets the mechanical and electrical specificatio

    and TS 31.101.

    (4) RJ-11

2 RJ11 ports provide 4kbps voice service or 3.1kHz audio (FAX).

    (5) 12-pin Connector

One 12-pin connector is for JRC-manufactured handset which prov

LEDs are used as indicators of terminal status.
