ARCHITECTURE DISCOVERY WORKSHOP

The Judson University Architecture Workshop is based on the exploration and

discovery of design and architectural foundations, while gaining an understanding

of what it means to become an architect. The week is filled with visits to

downtown Chicago, architectural firms, presentations from Judson faculty, being

a college student, and foundational design projects. The students are exposed to

formal and spatial exercises and multi-step projects focused on divergent thinking

and creative problem solving. In the University’s architectural studio, students

create two-dimensional motifs that are developed into patterns and ultimately,

various three-dimensional compositions, allowing for the “play” and discovery of

new and more exciting compositions as the design process unfolds with every

new step.

Beyond the hands-on experience of the studio and the downtown field trip, the

architecture workshop at Judson University strives to present the aspect of our

accredited program that makes us unique from all others: our evangelical Christian

mission, presenting Christ at work in our school and the architectural field.

It is our hope that the lessons of this week will result in participants learning to

think in new ways and to discover a better understanding of God’s will for their lives.

JUDSON UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF ART, DESIGN, AND ARCHITECTURE

Judson is an evangelical Christian university that represents the Church

at work in higher education, equipping students to be fully developed,

responsible persons who glorify God by the quality of their personal

relationships, their work, and their citizenship within the community, the

nation and the world. Through a broadly based education in the liberal arts,

sciences and professions, the university enables its students to acquire ideas

and concepts that sharpen their insights, develop skills appropriate to their

career goals, and develop the skills and commitment for lifelong learning. The

Judson community experience challenges graduates to be decisive leaders

and active participants in church and society, articulate proponents of Biblical

Christianity, persuasive advocates for the sovereignty of God over all life, and

effective ambassadors for Christ.

The Judson University School of Art, Design and Architecture is a Christ-

centered community of architects, artists and designers, appreciating our

diversity, embracing critical and creative excellence, developing the visual and

spatial imagination, and modeling stewardship and hope in service to local and

global communities.
