March has always had 31 days. Its name honors Mars, the Roman God of War. The winter ends with March, and then comes spring. Spring in the northern half of the world begins with March 19, 20, or 21. It’s the day when the sun is directly over the equator. March can either feel wintry or springy, with as many blustery, windy days as there are mild, sunny days. In the northern hemisphere, the animals end their hibernation and many plants come to life again in March. The sap flows in the trees again, and the buds begin to show up. Bears, woodchucks, and chipmunks leave their hibernating spots. People begin to start looking for the first robin, for the beginning of spring arrival. There are no national holidays in March, but there are important state and religious holidays celebrated. • Nebraskans celebrate the admission of their state to the Union on March 1. • Texas celebrates March 2 as the anniversary of its independence from Mexico. • On March 4, the people of Pennsylvania commemorate the granting of the state’s charter to William Penn in 1681. • The Irish celebrate March 17 as the feast day of St. Patrick. • In Maryland, March 25 is set apart for a celebration of the arrival of the first Maryland colonists in 1634. • The Jewish festival of Purim usually occurs in March. It is held on the day corresponding to the 14th day of Adar on the Hebrew calendar. Judith Uy-Villaruz Executive Director

Are YOU a Pisces?!?!Pisces is a water sign along with

Cancer & Scorpio. Unlike theother two water signs, Pisces are alot more easy-going emotionally. They aren’t going to throw theirchampagne glasses at you in arage, or board up the door so youwon’t ever leave home, but theywill offer you a world ofexcitement. The Piscean has anatural way of connecting with allwhom they come in contact with. The Pisces will look at you acertain way and they will say theright things to make you feel goodabout yourself. They appear warm, caring, and friendly, while at thesame time their mind can be milesand miles away. Pisceans arebeautiful people who see allsituations from both sides, because in their eyes everythingright can still be wrong, andeverything wrong can still be rightand at the same time it’s all good.

To them the chauffeur is just asinteresting as the celebrity they arechauffeuring. It’s like two fishswimming in opposite directions.Hmm, that says something onwhy their symbol is two fishswimming in different directions. The Pisces seem to havedistinguished extra metaphysicaland super intuitive abilities &have a way of getting you to seethe truth from your own eyes nomatter how much it hurts. It issaid that Pisces people are similarto a sponge that uncontrollablyabsorbs everything, either good orbad, & that’s very painful for theirsoul. This may lead them intostates of depression, but they willdisguise their insecurities so wellthat many will lean on themwithout offering them a hand orasking them if they are okay &well since they are always sohappy. So, take care of your Piscesfriends & appreciate them for theirkindness.

Nerissa’s Corner:Infections with influenza viruses

occur every year, eithersporadically as local outbreaks or

as a widespread epidemic.Epidemics occur almost

exclusively during the wintermonths. Attack rates are high

among the elderly and children, especially those with chronic

medical conditions or chronicdiseases.

A unique feature of Influenzavirus is the frequency with which

antigenicity occur. Because ofthese alterations, variants of the

viruses develop to which thepopulation at risk has little or noresistance, which helps explain

why Influenza epidemicscontinue.

As we all know, prevention ofInfluenza is best accomplished byannual vaccination especially forthose who are at risk. Adjunctive

therapy for Influenza includesmeasures to provide symptomatic

relief.

Increase fluid intake, remain inbed for a couple of days, usecough medicines to relieve

coughs, and antifebrile medicineto reduce fever. If suspected ordiagnosed with Pneumonia,

antibiotics should beadministered. Precautions must beobserved to prevent the spread of

the virus. It spreads by aerosol

droplets expelled during coughingor sneezing. Covering the mouthwhen coughing or sneezing is soimportant to remember. Hand

washing and hand sanitizing mustbe observed at all times.

Environmental sanitation usingbleach and water is an effective

disinfectant (1/3 cup bleach in 1gallon of water) to surfaces, tile

floors, counters, sinks, and toilets.A mixture of 1 Tbsp bleach in 1gallon of water can be used for

food/mouth contact items, toys orstainless steel surfaces. Make sure

to use chemicals in well-ventilatedareas. Handle contaminatedmaterial as little as possible.

Again, observe hand washing andhand sanitizing at all times. And ifyou haven’t received a Flu vaccine,

it’s not too late. Get vaccinatednow.
