We are the newspaper of record for parish government and schools and several municipalities ranging from about 12,000 residents (Denham Springs) to less than 1,000. The parish itself has a population of about 130,000. The issues included from the required months for this contest illustrate the subjects of interest to our readers. They range in topics from government, economic development, crime and sports and cultural activities. The second issue was produced the day after this area was swamped by a hurricane that eventually produced record flooding here (worse than Katrina or Gustav). It is the product of hard work in adverse circumstances since our staff members were personally affected and our plant is located in the target area. Thank you for your consideration, Mike Dowty Managing Editor Livingston Parish News
