God gives the victory to Jephthah against the Ammonites.

Transcript of Judges 11b

  • 1.Israel had 45 years of peace and prosperity under the leadership of two godly men. 6-27-10 Tola for 23 years, and Jair for 22 years Godsold them into oppression.

2. They went to a man they hadpreviously rejected : Gilead's son by aprostitute , Leader of a band of outlaws, Jephthah . He agreed toleadthem in battle against the Ammonites, if they would make himking . They agreed . 3. Judges 11:11Then Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and captain over them: and Jephthah uttered all his words before the Lord in Mizpeh. This is a case wheremen chose a man to be over them, Buthe wentbefore the Lord, AndGod honored him . 4. But, I believe that the Hand of God was working in it all. God gifted Jephthahto beIsrael's deliverer. God brought theseproudsons of Gilead totheir kneesbefore Jephthah. God's Holy Spirit came upon Jephthah to win the victory. 5. 12And Jephthah sent messengers unto the king of the children of Ammon, saying, What hast thou to do with me, that thou art come against me to fight in my land? 6. 13And the king of the children of Ammon answered unto the messengers of Jephthah, Because Israel took away my land, when they came up out of Egypt , from Arnon even unto Jabbok, and unto Jordan: now therefore restore thoselandsagain peaceably. 7. 14And Jephthah sent messengers again unto the king of the children of Ammon:15And said unto him, Thus saith Jephthah, Israel took not away the land of Moab, nor the land of the children of Ammon: Israel had been here300 years . They didn't take the land from theAmmonites . Norfrom the Moabites. 8. 16But when Israel came up from Egypt, and walked through the wilderness unto the Red sea, and came to Kadesh;17Then Israel sent messengers unto the king of Edom, saying, Let me, I pray thee, pass through thy land: but the king of Edom would not hearkenthereto . And in like manner they sent unto the king of Moab: but he would notconsent : and Israel abode in Kadesh. 9. 18Then they went along through the wilderness, and compassed the land of Edom, and the land of Moab, and came by the east side of the land of Moab, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, but came not within the border of Moab: for Arnonwasthe border of Moab.19And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, the king of Heshbon; and Israel said unto him, Let us pass, we pray thee, through thy land into my place. 10. 20But Sihon trusted not Israel to pass through his coast: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and pitched in Jahaz, and fought against Israel.21 And theLord God of Israel delivered Sihonand all his people into the hand of Israel, and they smote them: so Israelpossessedall the land of theAmorites , the inhabitants of that country.22And they possessed all the coasts of the Amorites, from Arnon even unto Jabbok, and from the wilderness even unto Jordan. 11. 23So now the Lord God of Israel hath dispossessed theAmoritesfrom before His people Israel, and shouldest thou possess it?24 Wilt not thou possess that whichChemoshthy god giveth thee to possess? Sowhomsoever the Lord our God shall drive out from before us, them will we possess .We took this land from the Amorites, not from Y'all. Goddrove them out from before us. Y'all go live in the landyour godhas given you. 12. We are going tooccupyall the land which ourGodhas given us. Jephthah correctly saw this aswarfare between The True and Living God , Whom the Israelites served(when they weren't backslid), And thefalse godsof the surrounding nations. Of course, the forcebehind all false gods is thedeviland allhis demons . 13. 25And nowartthou any thing better than Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab? did he ever strive against Israel, or did he ever fight against them,26While Israel dwelt in Heshbon and her towns, and in Aroer and her towns, and in all the cities thatbealong by the coasts of Arnon, three hundred years ? why therefore did ye not recoverthemwithin that time? 14. 27Wherefore I have not sinned against thee, but thou doest me wrong to war against me:the Lord the Judgebe judge this day between the children of Israel and the children of Ammon.28Howbeit the king of the children of Ammonhearkened notunto the words of Jephthah which he sent him.Diplomacy willnever workwith thedevilnor his followers. He is theimplacableenemy of God. If there is anycompromisingdone, youwill do it all. 15. 29Then theSpirit of the Lordcame upon Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead, and Manasseh, and passed over Mizpeh of Gilead, and from Mizpehof Gilead he passed overuntothe children of Ammon.God hadpreparedJephthah with gifts of leadership and warfare. Now God hasempoweredhimwith the Holy Spirit. As long as he obeys God, he can't lose! 16. We must say with Jephthah: We are going tooccupy the landwhichThe Lordhas given us. Don't settlefor what you canget for yourself . Don't settlefor thehandoutsof false gods. Trust Godenoughto receive His best! 17. We mustnever compromisewith the devil. He will take every inch of ground we yield. But he will never compromise with us. James 47Submit yourselves therefore to God.Resistthe devil, and he will flee from you. Stand! 18. Matthew 631Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?32(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your Heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.33But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His Righteousness; andall these thingsshall be added unto you.34Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the dayisthe evil thereof. Trust God with patience.
