JUDE BAND Active: 1974 – 1981 Genre: Classic Rock and Original Music Members:

- Jude Vandyke: Vocals, Percussion - Paul Reed Smith: Guitar - Kevin Whisman: Drums - Mike Ault: Guitar - Dale Hymes: Bass - Russell Stone: Guitar, Vocals - Mark Chilcote: Drums - Mike Chollet: Bass - Andre Follot: Bass

The JUDE BAND was formed by members of KITE and OURS AGAIN, residents of Annapolis, Maryland, during the years from 1974 through 1980. Named after the lead singer Jude Vandyke. With an amazing flair of R&B and Rock, and a magnetic stage presence. The JUDE BAND got its start and was a regular at “Charlie’s West Side,” in the shadow of the Naval Academy stadium, where crowds were very supportive. Charlie’s was a hotbed of top-tier talent including acts like Vandyke and Glaser, Telluride, GroundStar, Sinbad, The Band of 1000 Names, and the late Danny Gatton and Eva Cassidy. The band was originally created with Mike Chollet and Mark Chilcote on bass and drums respectively, Paul Reed Smith and Russell Stone on guitar and Jude on vocals. The PRS guitar shop was growing in popularity. The band was re-formed, adding Kevin Whisman and Dale Hymes. Kevin was teaching percussion at the time and involved in many projects. He is a master of everything from jazz to rock and was instrumental in bringing the JUDE BAND rhythm section together. Dale was one of Paul’s first apprentices in the guitar shop. He was Paul’s tech and worked alongside Jude, where she added her artistic input in many ways. Dale at the time was playing in an original band OURS AGAIN that Paul, Kevin, and Jude mentored at events and performances. Jude’s voice was the signature of the band with her incomparable stage presence. Mike Ault joined the group and brought a style of blues and originality to the lead guitar, mixing beautifully with Paul’s style, where tone and attention to technology were key. Paul’s signature sound is still present in his instruments and Mike is his top demonstration rep, still playing with THE PRS BAND today.

The JUDE BAND recorded a single, “Mister Cat,” and the band was approached with contract options as well as touring all over the east coast. Production input was welcomed by artists such as Steve Whitkowski, Stanley Whitaker, and Chrissy and Mike Fath. There were powerful performances at some of the most popular locations, including mainstays such as Hammerjack’s of Baltimore, The Bayou, Desperados, and the Cellar Door of Georgetown, Pier 7 and many other venues in a five-state radius. The JUDE BAND also performed multiple dates in St. Croix in the Virgin Islands, with Andre Follot on bass. Russell Stone, David Glaser, John Vandyke, Tony Bunn, Carey Ziegler, as well as many other artists continued as regular contributors on stage and recordings, adding to the originality. The JUDE BAND separated in 1980, but all the members are involved in their own projects and still enjoy playing and recording music individually.
