MIDS to Software Radio

• Maintain MIDS “Foot Print” – No Change in Box Outline Dimensions

or hardware connectors– Maintain Same Mounting Locations– Additional capability connections available for

later integration

• Backwards Compatibility with MIDS LVT– Maintain Existing Interfaces– Require no host platform modifications for Link 16 and TACAN

• Allows for Additional Functional Capability in Same “Foot Print” to evolve as required by the Platforms

• JTRS Building Block Approach adapts to Reduced Size / Function JTRS Terminal for smaller platforms

Migration Objectives

•MIDS JTRS – Will maintain MIDS form-fit and Link-16/TACAN ICD (plug & play with legacy terminals) plus additional channels and JTRS functionality

Link-16 & TACAN on 1 Channel Programmable w/JTRS Enhanced Link-16 Waveform Retains 200 W Internal Link-16 PA/IPF

3 Additional JTRS waveform channels

2 MHz - 2 GHz capability Programmable with JTRS Waveforms

JTRS Functionality – Flexible, programmable channels, programmable COMSEC, Ad-hoc networking, route/retransmit

•MIDS-LVT Link-16, J-Voice, and TACAN by utilizing dedicated modules

DP/TP/SMP/RTI/DISC/RX/EXC/IPF/PA

Cannot be reconfigured to run other waveforms

By JTRS definitions, MIDS-LVT is a single channel, non-programmable radio that does Link-16, J-Voice, and TACAN on shared time basis

14

Summary

• US DoD transforming to Network Centric• JTRS and TCS are critical• MIDS to JTRS

– Builds on International team and knowledge base

– Leverages MIDS LVT investments– Reduces Integration Cost/Risks– Accelerates fielding of JTRS capabilities
