1. The features and structure of the elevator
The elevator which contains special load (car) is a crane driven by electric power that can make intermission motion along upright guide rails on different horizon. It is always installed in high
buildings to lift persons or freights only.
1.1 Microcomputer control VVVF elevator synopsis
This series elevator adopts integrative control system. This system puts high capability
microcomputer control and advanced driving technology together perfectly. This kind of elevator is a
new generation which our company adopts high technology distributing to the market. The
application of integrative control system ensures safety of elevators work to the utmost extent. And
the system has a great variety of status displaysso you can maintain elevator easily from looking
the manual when elevators have troubles. The mechanical transmission of this series elevator
optimizes scientific design and manufacture technics. And then it has high capability.
1.2 Elevator structure
1.2.1 Hoistway
1.2.1.1 Traction machine system
Traction machine system is a lifting mechanism which is installed on the special machine
supporting beams. It is composed of the following components.
a. Traction
Adopt permanent magnet synchronous gearless traction machine. Its feature is working
smoothly and high efficiency and long life and etc.
b. Brake
A normal closed magnetic brake is opening when traction electromotor electrified and
workedwhen elevator stopped, the brake is working and keep the position of car. Brake
working is opening when the electromotor electrified, and otherwise its close.
c. Traction sheave
Traction sheave has a hemicycle rope groove with cut to produce enough friction between
ropes and rope groove.
d. Anti-vibration device
Anti-vibration device which is made of rubber is fixed between concrete base and girders,

to improve the comfort of elevator operation by decreasing traction machine vibration.
1.2.1.2 Overspeed governor
Overspeed governor is connected with car by safety ropesso the moving of car cause
governor sheaves motions. And the governor will act, when the cars velocity exceeds the
regulated speed, its whole process action is shown as following:
Overspeed governor makes safety gear work by ropes immediately. At the same time,
overspeed up and down limit switch cut off the control circuit and brake circuit.
1.2.1.3 Control panel
Control panel is the control center of elevator. It is master of the running elevator all the
time and make many motion of lift under collaborations of operation panel and calling board,
such as start, up, down, stop, to have good automatic and safe capacity what we wanted.
When someone presses the calling button of a landing, control system will confirm the
move of elevator by current state. The panel also has a great variety of stator displays
which can help to maintain for workers expediently.
1.2.1.4 Guide rail
The rails are used for car and counterweight. Rail clips should be fixed on the surface of rail
brackets. When elevator is running, car and counterweight are moved along the rails, and
guarantee the position demand between car and counterweight and among wells. When
safety gear has been act, the rails should support the car (with load) or counterweight. 1.2.1.5 Counterweight
Counterweight also is connected with car by traction rope to balance the car deadweight
and 4550% rated load of the elevator, and the guide shoes should be installed on the
up-and-down ends of counterweight, in order to make counterweight slide up-and-down
along the rails.
1.2.1.6 Buffer
There are two kinds of buffers, one is spring buffer, and the other is hydraulic buffer. Buffers
should be fixed in the pit under car frame and counterweight, and it can sustain
corresponding impact from car overloading and falling with the velocity allowed by
governors. Buffer is one of the important safety components of elevator.

1.2.1.7 Well terminal switch
Well terminal switch is installed on terminal landings, which can be touched by the stick on
car. When elevator momently exceeds to the position, it should stay, well terminal switch
will force elevator to slowdown and cut off control circuit to stop car moving.
1.2.2 Landing
1.2.2.1 Landing door
There is a door to go into the car on every landing. A door lock is installed on the landing
door. Only when the car reaches the landing, the landing door should be opened and an
electric interlocking contact is installed on it. And the elevator can start to move by the
control system after door has been closed. Otherwise, if the door is opened suddenly the
car in moving will stop immediately.
1.2.2.2 Calling buttons
There is a calling button near every landing door. The calling button has one button which is
used at terminal landing or double buttons which are used at intermediate landing. A call
signal will be imputed into the control system for elevator to accept the demand after
pressing down the calling button.
1.2.2.3 Landing indicator
Landing indicator is always set on the landing door or near it, and can also be set with the
calling buttons together. There is a number to show car position and an arrowhead to show
the elevator running direction on the indicator. The lighting number shows car position at
hoistway, and the lighting arrowhead shows the elevator running direction.
1.2.3 Car structure
1.2.3.1 Car
Car is elevator container equipment, which is suspended by traction rope, and car is sliding
on guide rails by up-and-down guide shoes that are installed on the car frame. There is an
automatic opening door, which has an interlocking contact. As soon as the door is closed
right, elevator will start to work, and it will stop working when door is opened suddenly.
There is photo-electric or light curtain and etc safety device, which should be installed on
the car automatic door edge. Then in the progress of closing door when the safety device

meets passenger or barrier, it can make door stop closing at once and reverse to open
automatically.
1.2.3.2 Safety gear
Safety gear is installed under car frame plank left-and-right. When elevator drop down
overspeed, overspeed governor switch will go to work and cut off control circuit, and at the
same time, clamp safety rope, safety gear should work and lock on the guide rails, in order
to stop the elevator. If there is basement or channels under the well pit, safety gear should
also be installed on the counterweight frame.
1.2.3.3 Operation panel
Operation panel should be installed in car. So passengers or attendants can control
elevators action by buttons on the panel. In the panel there are also safety switch and
inspection switch and others.
1.2.3.4 Car indicator
Car indicator is always installed on a board of the operation panel, which has a number to
show landing position and an arrowhead to show the elevator running direction. The
lighting number shows car position at hoistway and the lighting arrowhead shows the
elevator running direction.
1.2.3.5 Automatic door machine of frequency conversion
Automatic door machine has a three phase AC frequency conversion electromotor which is
the power to drive door machine by VVVF circuit and changing the speed of electromotor.
1.2.3.6 Leveling inductor
Leveling inductor is on top of car and there is leveling magnet vane on every landing. When
leveling magnet vane insert into leveling inductor, inductor begins to work and the elevator
should be stopped. When elevator arrived at level landing and opened the door automatic
after stopping the landing, the car floor level is in accordance with landing floor level.

2. Elevator normal use
2.1 General rules in use
2.1.1 Keeping elevator working safely, a good maintenance system should be built by customer, and
take supervision and inspection frequently. And there should be professional persons to
manage or entrust special company to maintain.
2.1.2 The elevator installation professional maintainers must have practical experiences or know the
maintenance demand and should be confirmed by customer.
2.1.3 Maintainers should check main safety establishments and electric control parts every week.
After using three months they must have a careful examination to important mechanisms and
electric equipments, and they should be adjusted. After used one year, elevator should have a technical test including the machines and electric
equipments and safety equipments and main parts and components abrasions, if their
abrasions are over the permissible values, they will be repaired or be replaced. And all the
elevators should have been disassembled and cleaned between 3 years and 5 years.
Confirm the heavy repairing term by customer.
2.1.4 The attendant should have high sense of responsibility to take good care of equipments and be
familiar with operating characteristic.
2.1.5 When elevator has fault, it should be stopped at once until it is renovated and checked out
carefully to be sure safe to work.
2.1.6 Near the landing door, there are 50lx on ground about natural or manual illumination, for user
opening landing doors and going into car, even if the lighting has been in trouble, the objects ahead can also be seen.
2.1.7 If elevator has not worked over 1 week, first, it should be checked up carefully and has a test
running, when it is good, it can be used.
2.1.8 The fault, repairing and maintenance of the elevator should be recorded in elevator resume.
2.1.9 Voltage, frequency and phase sequence of power must accord with regulations in the elevator
technical document.
2.1.10. There are several regulations as following about the work conditions of elevator.
a) The voltage fluctuation must be within 7%, and the power frequency fluctuation must be

within 2%.
b) The hoistway should be dry. There should not be dust and harmful chemical gas in the hoistway.
c) The temperature in hoistway should be between 5 degree and 40 degree, the relative humidity could not be higher than 85% when the temperature is 25 degree.
2.1.11 All the surfaces of electric equipments must be connected with earth. Protective earthing must
accord with GB 50257-96Code for construction and acceptance of electric device for
explosion atmospheres and fire hazard electrical equipment installation engineering or the
local code.
2.1.12 The lighting source and control line should be laid separately.
2.1.13 Appearance of car, landing doors, landing call boards, jambs should keep clean and defend from scratching and damaging.
2.1.14 There are some establishments for putting out a fire near the landing door.
2.2 Safe operation rules
2.2.1 Attendant or manager should pay attention to inspect and prepare the following items, before
the elevator running.
Ensure landing location of car before opening landing door to go into the car.
Open the car lighting.
Run the elevator several times and discover no abnormal phenomenon before elevator
starting to work.
Do not open the door by hands after landing doors closed, and elevator cant start when
landing door and car door have not been closed entirely.
Leveling accuracy has no prominent change.
Clean the obvious parts of car and landing doors in passengers sight.
2.2.2 Driver or manager should pay attention to the following items, when elevator is running.
When driver has to leave or elevator will be stopped with other reasons, stop switch in
car must be closed.
Car load shouldnt be over the rated load.
Passenger elevator should not be used for carrying cargo frequently.

Do not carry flammable, bursting dangerous goods. If there is special situation, only after
authorized by motorman and manage department, goods can be carried with strict
protection measures.
Do not run when landing door is open, and do not allow canceling signals by inspection
and stop buttons.
Do not open the car top emergency exit to carry long objects. Dissuade passengers cling to the car door.
Dont place other goods except inhere facilities on the top of car.
2.2.3 If there are some following troubles, driver and manager should notice maintainers.
After the landing door and car door close, the elevator cant run normally.
Running speed changes obviously.
Before the car door and landing door close, elevator automatic run.
The running direction is different from the selected direction.
If the calling signal and the landing signal are out of control, the attendant should press
stop button immediately.
Discover some large noise, vibration and impact.
Car continues to run over the terminal landing, when cars load is under the rated load.
Safety gears have wrong action.
Touching a metal part of elevator, feeling tingling.
Smell the empyreuma from the hyperthermal electric components.
2.2.4 Before the landing door is removed or installed, the safety barrier should be set outside the
landing door frame, and hanger a striking sign, the notify writes that the door have been
removed, prohibit entering into hoistway or prohibit entering into hoistway, prevent falling,
and so on. Before the safety barriers do not set, it should be taken charge, prohibit people
entering into hoistway.
2.2.5 When elevator finishes its work, attendant and manager should make it stay at the main
landing, and close all switches on operation panel or use the stop switch to lock it.
2.2.6 In case of emergency, attendant should take the following measures:
When elevator is out of control and safety gears do not work, passengers should be

persuaded not to jump out of the car, and have prepared to bear for colliding from the cars urgent stopping.
Elevator stopped suddenly with accident, attendant should press alarm bell to notice
maintainer and keep passengers out of car safely.
When elevator stopped suddenly with accident in its running, maintainer should open the
control cabinet, and press emergency running button, open the brake linings by standby
power for car sliding to the nearest landing and stop, finally make passengers leave out
of elevator in security.
2.3 The elevator hoistway management
2.3.1 If there is an inspection door, near which there is a notice: The elevator hoistway is dangerous!
Do not enter into the hoistway without permission.
2.3.2 Anything, such as varieties of sundries, water and gas pipes, should not be stored except
elevators equipments.
2.3.3 The power supply should be turn off, if elevator stops using for a long time.
2.4 In case of emergency, please take the following measures
2.4.1 When the car of the elevator beats the buffer or counterweight beats the buffer;
2.4.2 After earthquake:
The small earthquake can not destroy the elevator badly. But it can make the guide shoe of car
or counterweight escape from the rail or several cables are cut off, and at the same time can not
run the elevator.
2.4.3 When fire:
According to the different fire, when the elevator is for the firemen, please carry the passengers
to the safety landing.
a) Tell the driver or manager to stop the elevator at safety landing door and ensure the passengers safety.
b) Cut off the power when the passengers withdraw from the elevator. c) Close the all the landing door and then avoid the fire to spread destruction.
2.4.4 After the above emergency, please inspect and maintenance by the professional men.

3. The elevator maintenance and adjustment 3.1 Maintenance attention items
The elevator should be maintained only by qualified personnel. Be careful with the microcomputer
control system on the elevator in maintenance.
3.1.1 In the process of maintenance, the following rules should be obeyed:
Dont take passengers or goods, the notice showing the elevator in maintenance should
be hung on all landing doors.
The switches at the relative positions should be turned off.
When the maintenance is in progress, the main switch of power source should be cut off.
When the maintenance is in progress on the top of car, the inspection switch should be
turned on.
In the pit of the hoistway, the emergency stop switch on the pit inspection box should be
turned off, and at the same time, the safety switch of the tension device of the overspeed
governor should be turned off.
The hand light must have protecting shade and use safe voltage below 36V.some low
voltage sockets should be installed in machine room, pit, car top
Operations should be done by manager and assistants together.
If need the drivers cooperation, the driver must concentrate on maintaining, and obey
the orders of maintainers strictly.
Dont let anyone stretch forward with his half body into hoistway or work on car top or car
sill through the car door when one foot is in car and the other is out of the car.
Dont pull the cable and hang on the cable in the hoistway.
The landing doors must be closed if the door can be opened by some tools or
equipments.
Notice: when the elevator is on maintenance and the car is on the top landing, the inspection men
must stand in the guard area. When inspect the traction machine, the men can stand on
the car roof. Before inspection work, please pull the shaft 5 into the plate 3 to the limited
position and the switch acts, and then lock it by bolt 1. After maintenance, please draw the
shaft from the plate to the limited position and then lock it by bolts 1.

Car top guard
When inspecting traction machine,
encoder, over-speed governor
system and etc, please adjust the car fixed device to appointed position
and then work as following:
1) Forbid prostrating and leaning and spanning the car top guard.
2) Forbid standing on the inclined guard.

3.1.2 Attentions of using instruments:
The internal resistance of the avometer should be more than 200K.
The measuring range of current of AC amperemeter is 100A.
The measuring range of voltage of AC voltmeter is 500V, and the import impedance
should be more than 300 K with pointer voltmeters.
Use the high voltage megger with batteries, whose range of voltage is 00V and whose
internal resistance is above 200K. Do not use megger by hand.
The measuring range of tachometer is 0-5000r/min.
3.2 The elevator adjustment explanations 3.2.1. Adjustment of comfort:
There is impact when starting up, the mechanical system should be inspected:
a) It is easy to cause impact if the brake is not completely released or the brake is released but the brake linings are not in right position causing friction between brake
lining and brake drum.
b) Installation position of guide shoes should be confirmed. Confirm the mechanism, when there is vibration in operation.
a) Find out whether there is friction between brake lining and brake drum and whether the ropes are being extended abnormally or not.
b) Because the joint of guide rails is uneven, it should not be confused with the vibration caused by electrical system.
3.2.2. If the leveling state is not good
If the leveling error is big at particular landing, check whether the position of inductors
and leveling plate is changed in hoistway or not, adjust them if necessary. If all the leveling landing state is not good, check whether the position of inductors and
leveling plate on car side is correct or not, adjust them if necessary. 3.2.3 Check on machine system
Traction machine
Check strange noise and temperature and vibration;
Check the safety of the traction machine installation basement;

Check the anti-vibration pads if they are good;
Check the abrasion of machine wheel and ensure all rope troughs are same;
Check the bearing of traction machine and if necessary lubricate them;
Check the cables and ensure they are ok;
Check encoder and ensure it works normally.
Brake
When braking, brake tile clasp the working surface of brake wheel. When brake tile is
loosen, the gap of brake tile and working surface of brake wheel must meet the
manufactures requirement.
The joint of loop is not loose and insulation is ok; The bearing can act flexibly and if necessary lubricate them;
The friction surface must not be smeary, especially the brake tile surface;
Exchange a new brake tile if the tile has a bad abrasion.
Check the electrical switches and cable.

3.2.4. Check on overspeed governor
The operation of overspeed governor should be flexible and reliable, and check to add
lithium lubrication grease into rolling bearings every year.
Keep governor tension device working in normal, check the operation reliability of the
slack-rope safety switch.
When the ropes length of overspeed governor is longer beyond permission as to cut off
control circuit, the ropes should be cut short.
Replace the ropes of governor which is worn out seriously. And the requirement of
replacement is as same as traction rope.
Check the work reliability of overspeed switches, rope clamps and grooves, and clean
sundries to keep it running.
If the overspeed system has remote operation function, please check its reliability.
3.2.5 Check on car door and automatic frequency conversion door machine
Fill lithium lubrication grease to the electromotor bearings in the car door regularly, and
clean every year.
If there is some extension of driving belts lead to lessen the tension and slide, the bolts
on the base of electromotor should be adjusted to tighten properly. Elevator will not start until the car door is closed entirely and the safety circuit acts.
Before assembling linkage device, tractions force of a door panel in any horizontal
direction is less than 3 N.
Add lithium lubrication grease to bearings of rocker arms regularly, and clean every year.
3.2.6 Check on safety gear
The joining of driving levers should be oiled with mechanical lubricant every two months. The rolling parts or sliding parts of the clips mouth should be covered with lithium
lubrication grease to make its action more flexible.
When the safety gear works, it must be able to cut off the control circuit and force the car
to stop.
The clearance between the wedge of the safety blanks and the working surface of guide
rails is about 3~4mm, and it is similar everywhere.

3.2.7 Check on guide rails and guide shoes
Check the wearing condition of the sliding guide shoe pad, if the work-surface wearing
of the pad reaches 1mm, it should be replaced. Prevent from occurring clearance
between guide shoe and guide rail to make vibration, when the car is running.
When the surface of guide rails is rough and the surface is scratched by the safety
gears operating due to a long time and little lubricants, the guide rails must be ground to
smooth before using again.
Check the guide rail equipments every year, the maintainer should stand on car top and
check slowly from up to down, and tighten all the bolts of guide rail clips, rail joints and rail supports one by one.
3.2.8 Check on buffers
Oil used for oil buffers: the freezing point should be below -10 , and viscosity target is
above 75% and oil level is also kept above minimum level.
Every 2 months check the oil level and leakage condition of buffers, add oil and tighten
all the bolts. All the bolts should be tightened. The exposed surface of plunger should be
cleaned by petrol and painted with anti-rust oil (buffer oil can also be used). Every year there is a test of piston restoration that buffers is moved from full-compressed
position to the free height position, in which the time should be less than 90s.
3.2.9 Check on landing door and interlocking device
Check the landing door and interlocking device every month make sure that the
conducting strips and contacts are fixed well, the spring leaf of contact is strong enough
to go back by itself. All the connections by riveting, welding and adhering are tightly
connected, the locking pieces, arms and rollers operation should be flexible. The bearing
should be filled with lithium lubrication grease and cleaned once a year.
Every month check the door hanging rollers which should be replaced when the value of
the trolley diameter wearing is 3mm. Check the connection bolts are tightly fastened and
cleaned the door guides weekly and make sure the wheel moves flexibly without noise or
jump. It is not allowed to open the landing door by hand outside.

Before interlocking device is assembled, tractions force of a single door panel in any
horizontal direction is less than 3 N.
Adjust the clearance between eccentricity roller of hanger rollers and the bottoms of door tracks to 0.5mm.
Add lithium lubrication grease to trolley of rocker regularly, and clean every year.
3.2.10 Check on traction ropes
1 The tensions error of traction ropes:
A When the traveling height is more than 40 meters:
1 Adjustment of tension of the ropes on the car side Stop car at a intermediate landing, and take a vibration to the ropes above the car top
with 10mm, then measure the total time when they move back and forth 5 times and the
tolerance must be consistent with regulations.
2 Tension of the ropes on the counterweight side
Stop car at some intermediate landing, and use the same adjustment and measurement as 1).
B When the traveling height is less than 40 meters:
1 Adjustment of tension of the ropes on the car side Stop car to the bottom terminal landing, and use the same adjustment and measurement as A-1).
2 Adjustment of tension of the ropes on the counterweight side Stop car at the top terminal landing, and measure the vibration of ropes on the
counterweight side. The error request is similar to A-1). Adjust the tension of wire ropes in limiting its revolving.
2 Replace it as discovering following things:
a. If the broken of steel wire is even in layers of rope, the number is more than 32 in a turn
distance.
b. If the broken of steel wire is concentrated in 1 or 2 layers of rope, the number is more
than 16 in a turn distance.
c. The steel wires abrasion and rust of traction ropes are serious.

4. Disposal in an emergency

4.1 Passengers keep calmness and press alarm-bell and relate with keep watch office and call
telephone to ask for help.
4.2 If the elevator has automatic succor function, the elevator can run the nearer landing door and
then open the door automatically.
The detail emergency rescue operation instruction is described as Succor Instruction in electric
system adjust manual. The brief instruction is struck on the controller, when emergency appear also can see it.
Manual operation must be done by professional men or be accredited men by users.
If accredited men can not operate the elevator, please relate with professional men.
The accredited men can rescue passengers by landing door only.
If happen above emergency, inspect and maintenance the elevator by professional
men and then run the elevator.

Check the brake of traction machine
Action is sensitive. Brake shoes grip the brake wheel tightly. When loose the brake, brake shoe loosen synchronously. And brake gap meets the requirement of equipment manufacture.
Check the running of traction machine
No shake, no strange noise, no strange temperature and no oil leakage.
Check oil of traction machine gear
Check its oil level and whether it is leakage or not. Change the lubrication oil timely.
Clear car roof, wiring box and fan and the others.
Clear them and guarantee that protective guard is safe.
Check car roof safety switches
Check its action and function. Such as emergency stop switch and safety window switch and door emergency stop switch and elevator inspection switch ant etc.
Car alarm bell and call device check
Cooperate with owner and working normally.
Landing door and car door running check
Open and close normally and no bump and strange noise

Addenda 4: Rescue instruction
The passengers may be trapped in the elevator car when the running elevator stops suddenly between
the two floors because of the fault, power cutting etc. Usually we may move the car to door zone by
hand-winding, and then let them out. But the machine room-less system has no the hand winding device
or it is very complex because the traction motor is set in hatchway. We design the rescue system to solve
above problem. The main equipment is backup power (UPS). EEmmeerrggeennccyy rruunnnniinngg pprroocceessssMMaaiinn ppoowweerr
The rescue man who has be trained can turn emergency running key switch on, then the elevator is in
emergency running statespeed governor switch, safety gear switch, limit switch and the buffer switch
will be bypassed. Open hall door and find the car position, decide the car running direction. Then press
the going up or down button, the car will move according to the selected direction.
The rescue man must observe carefully the indicative lamp for leveling on MCB (X1,X3), If the lamps are going out all, the car is in the door zone now, and release these button, then call the passengers by the
phone to press the opening door switch, and get out.

Auto rescue function is standard function for machine roomless. It will perform auto rescue after power
failure. If car and counterweight is balancing, please put load to car top to break balance.

1. Emergency running when power on
1.1 The rescue man speaks the passengers to checks the number of passengers in the car, and tell
them the rescue process will start now and to remain calm.
1.2 Open the top landing door, confirm the current car position and decide to go up or go down.
1.3 Close the door.
1.4 put system into inspection mode by key switch.
1.5 The rescue man must observe carefully the indicative lamp for door zone position on MCB(X1, X3), if the lamps are unlight all, the car is in the door zone now, and release these button, and then speaks
the passengers to press the door open button, and get out.
2. If the safety gear has engaged and the power is still on.

2.1The rescue man speaks the passengers to checks the number of passengers in the car, and tell
them the rescue process will start now and to remain calm.
2.2 Put system into inspection mode, safety switch and the limit switch will be shorted.
2.3 Press up button and run up, and the safety gear will be released.
2.4 After released, return from inspection to normal, system will relevel and set passenger free.
3. If the safety gear has engaged and the power is off.
3.1 If there is no user power and the state is not very bad, and there are no passengers in the car you
must wait until the power turn on. Using the Emergency running to rise up the car, and release the
safety gear.
3.2 If there is no user power and the state is very bad, but there are passengers in the car, you must go
on rescueing according to the sequence as following strictly:
3.2.1 The rescue man calls on the passengers and confirms the number of passengers in the car, tell
them the rescue will start right now and dont worry.
3.2.3 Open the nearest landing door, if the height that from the car to landing door is more than 1.4m.
The rescue man opens the landing door straightly and makes the passengers come out.
4. If counterweight lands on buffer
4.1 The rescue man speaks the passengers to checks the number of passengers in the car, and tell
them the rescue process will start now and to remain calm.
4.2 Turn off the main power switch.
4.3 The rescue may open the top landing door directly and help the passengers jump down, because the distance that the car door over the landing door sill no more than 500mm.
5. If the safety gear has engaged in the top floor
5.1 do as item 3, following 3.3.2 rescue, the rescue open the lowest landing door and enter the pit.
5.2 Drag down slowly the CWT by the steel wire rope and jack, make the car go up and release the safety gear (Sometimes remove the buffer. Replace it after the safety gear is released.)
