UAS as an Enabler for EW Effects Delivery

• UAVs Provide “Access”: (i.e. “Go where other Systems can’t”)

– Access to Typically Denied Areas:

• Protected Areas (Detection & Defense Systems)

• Distant / Deep Locations (Not Plausible with Current Access Methods)

• “Politically Protected” Areas

– “Close-in” Air Space (Very-Close Airspace is now Achievable)

– Undetectable via Small Size, Slow Speeds, LPI Signatures

– Access through numbers (Many Locations at Once)

• Decrease Risk:

– The Human is out of Reach

– Access with Attritable or even Expendable Assets

• Don’t Break the bank when we lose a platform

• Lower Costs:

– UA Platform may be lowest cost Item in Kill Chain

• Persistence: (i.e. “Stay where other Systems can’t”)

– Long Loiter – “Remain on Location”

MFEW - UAS Offensive Electronic Attack

OSD Vigilant Hammer 2 (VH2) Demo

Overview

Project Description • Design, build and fly a OEA payload for the Bat Group 3 UAS

at the OSD sponsored VH2.

• Demonstrate OEA against “Near-Peer” Radios in a tactical environment, (threats from the MFEW CDD)

• Demonstrate Manned Unmanned teaming in a cooperative EA mission against radar (threats also listed in the MFEW CDD).

Group 3 UAS EA Objectives

• Counter Comm and Counter Radar – without reconfiguration

• MUM-T EA with 4th Gen/5th Gen Fighters

• Counter Near Peer radio • Rough measure of effects

• Determine TTPs going forward

• Survey VHF/UHF Environ for post analysis

• Demonstrate Tech Readiness for MFEW Air Small
