    Initiatives

At Jaypee we adhere to the concept of a better quality of life for everyone, now and for generations to come, whilst achieving a stable economicdevelopment. With this focus in mind the Jaypee Group made a firm c ommitment to the epitome of environment protection.

Institutionalizing this Green Initiative The Jaypee Group has constituted Project Groups at the project, regional and corporate centre level to carry out specific environmental related functions. These groups initiate and sustain measures to mitigate, monitor and control the impact of project implementation on t he environment.

Jaypees initial footsteps in the construction industry were as Civil Engineers and EPC contractors. Over the years the group holds the distinction of

securing 54% of the private hydropower projects in the country. Being a private player ion the hydro power sector, the Jaypees have secured threeprojects Baspa II ,300 MW, Vishnu Prayag, 400 MW and Karcham Wangtoo a 1000 MW BOO basis project. All the three projects are Run of the river projects, that helps c onserve the ecological balance without any harm done to the flora or the fauna as these projects are devoid of any rehabilitationor resettlement issues. After t he commissioning of the project at t he respective project site plant tree saplings and nurture them to make the project site allneat and green.

Jaypee's in 1983 set up cement manufacturing facilities and are a leading producer of cement in its natural producing zone. Cement Industry isconsidered as one of the main polluting industries that harms the eco system. To conserve the mother nature and to stop environmental degradation thecement division boosts of an Environment Management Cell. The cell hosts a fully functional laboratory with modern equipment such as High VolumeSamplers, Respirable Dust Samplers, Dust Fall Equipments, Noise Monitoring Equipment, Auto Weather Station, Blast Mate and other supportingequipments for monitoring the impact of cement operations on the environment.

Limestone - a key c omponent in the manufacture of cement, the company mines it using the Computer Aided Deposit Evaluation or CADE with the help of Holder Bank Management Consultancy (HMC), Switzerland. The area for blast is scientifically selected erstwhile keeping environmental issues in mind. Allsources of dust generation in the plant are well designed for producing minimum dust.

    Resource Conservation

With better awareness of the ecology and our working environment, the Jaypee Group as, indeed, the rest of world continually looks for innovative andcost - effective s olutions to reduce wastes and preserve natural resources.

Some of the measures include :

Reduction in new land ac quisition by optimal utilization of existing ones.

Capacity Addition to extant resources including land, machinery, infrastructure and human resource

Reduction in water and fuel consumption by recycling and the endorsing of more efficient combustion methods & state- of - the - art tec hnology.

    Afforestation Drive

At all sites, efforts are made to conserve the ecological balance without any harm done to flora or the fauna. After the commissioning of the project at therespective project site plants tree saplings and nurture them to make the project site all neat and green. The species planted in the area include Teak,Sisam, Babul, Jamun, Mahua, Neem, Peepal, Bargad, Guava, Mango and Amla.

A plantation drive is a whole year round drive that the group undertakes.

So far, planting around 1.5 lac trees has restored 83 hectares of back-filled area. In addition to this, massive plantation of over 5,88,380 trees has beendone around the cement complex. A well-organized Horticulture Department under the guidance of professional Horticulturists looks after the plantationactivity in and around the cement plant and the M ining areas.

Due to t he heavy afforestation in the area, summer ambient Temperatures are normally around 2 degree lower than the surrounding areas. During the lastfive years it has also been observed that rain fall of this area has been improving by around 100 mm. on an annual basis

    Water Harvesting & Water Quality

The mined out areas remain in balance after the backfilling of areas and their utilization as water reservoirs for rainwater harvesting. Garland drains aroundthe mining areas are used to further charge these reservoirs. Four Rain Water harvesting bodies covering nearly 47.0 hectares have been developed inMines area. These reservoirs with a capacity of 32.2 lac M3 water have created a positive impact on the ground water level of adjoining villages bystabilizing the water table of the surrounding wells

The water reservoirs developed in the area have created a positive impact on the ground water levels resulting in an increase in the water t able by about 3to 4 Mtrs.

There are no effluents in water being disposed as these effluents are suitably neutralized in a neutralizing pit through an acid or alkali doze. The treatedeffluents are used for development /maintenance of Green belt.

A well equipped laboratory monitors and analyzes the water quality. Besides this a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) has also been set up.

    Water Conservation

Adoption of enhanced modern technology and the up gradation of the cement plants operations have resulted in 90% Water saving by use of Air CooledCondenser which requires only 350M 3/day as compared to Water Cooled Condenser having consumption of about 3500 M 3/Day

    Air Quality Control

Ambient air quality is monitored on regular basis in core and buffer zone for SPM & RPM.

With installation of a properly designed fuel firing system the Carbon Mono Oxide & Sulpher di-oxide emission is negligible.

    Noise Pollution

The noise pollution from turbine, fans centrifugal pumps electric motors etc is kept least with proper design below the permissible limit of 85 dB at 1 mtaway from the source.

    Energy Conservation

The future generations of our, rely on us, t o give them a better environment in which they can thrive. I n this regard comprehensive energy conservationpolicies need to be formulated by the corporate world so that our core resources do not get fatigued in the near future to come. Keeping this in mind the JaypeeGroup has committed itself to adopting latest technology to c onserve energy.

The company has formulated a well devised energy policy which serves twofold purpose, firstly, it ensures saving in energy costs and secondly, it helps inimproving operational efficiency. The policy is devised at identification of potential areas of saving energy, installation of energy efficient equipment such ascapacitor control panels to help improve power factor and compact florescent lamps wherever possible.

An indepth analysis of cement operation of the company has made it energy conscious and following measures have been taken:

Conversion into Variable Frequency (V/F) drive for Cooler Fans to increase the production of Kiln and reduce the specific power consumption.

Conversion into Variable Frequency (V/F) drive for 361 SRI Raw Mill Classifier to increase the production of Raw M ill and reduce the specific power consumption.

Modification of Raw Mill Classifier was done due to which output of Raw Mill has been increased, thus reducing specific power consumption

    considerably.

Installation of modern Duoflex Burner in Unit 1 c ement for Thermal energy saving.

Installation of six stage SLC Preheater replacing existing four stage ILC Preheater of Unit 1 for Thermal energy saving.

Installation of IKN KIDS and CFG grate plates in first grate of Unit 1 for Thermal energy saving.

Pneumatic Kiln feed system changed by mechanical conveying (Bucket Elevator) of Unit 1 and new coal dozing system for energy saving.

Dynamic separator is installed replacing static separator in Raw mill section in Unit 1 for energy saving.

An Energy Monitoring Cell has been set up which is assigned the task of monthly review of power consumption. Regular steps are taken to identify and arrestthe loss of energy.

J AIPRAKA S H S EWA S ANS THAN [ JSS] , a not-for-profit Trust promoted by Shri J aiprakash Gaur , the Founder Chairman of the Jaypee G roup, has beenestablished to discharge its responsibility towards the society. The sansthan functions with a holistic approach for overall socio-economic development. Set upin 1993 the trust aims t o realize the corporate philosophy of Growth with a Human Face and try to help reduce the pain & agony in society.

JSS has translated its social responsibility into reality by building up schools and training institutes that cater to the needs of providing quality education to therural masses. Under the Comprehensive Rural Development Programme (CRDP) adopted in villages surrounding the cement plant free health care andanimal care programmes have been undertaken. The trust helps in times of natural catastrophe to reach the effected communities in distress.

    Comprehensive Rural Development Programme (CRDP)

People of resources must contribute towards making a better tomorrow for all who c ome in contact and we consider it our privilege to improving the lives of thepeople that come in contact with us around our project sites/ cement complex while we endeavor in the task of nation building.

An altruistic CRDP based on a meticulously conducted survey was started in 1993 to assist in the development of 18 villages around Jaypeenagar, Rewa[M.P].

The activities of CRDP include free medical camps, free animal care camps, launching literacy campaign both for young girls and adult education, deliveringsafe drinking water supply and creating huge water reservoirs in different villages, creating opportunities for self employment and other social activitiesincluding renovation of old temples, other schools and hospital buildings in the adjoining adopted villages. Initially, when the programme was implemented 13villages were covered but subsequently 13 more villages were added. The 26 villages till date covered under the CRDP programme are Naubasata, Garhwa,

Atrauli, Sumeda, Kachoor, Chijjwar, Tewni, Madheypur, Sonra, Baijnath, Khamariya, Bholgarh, Turki, Bankuiyan, Sakarwat, Darhi, Marha, Sagoni, Narora,Hinoti, Bihara, Kauadhan, Jonhi, Dengrahat, Bela, and Devmaudaldal.
