1Inspired by crystals, the installation breaks the grid on the building facade of the Woodruff Arts Center into a triangular tessellation. The triangular planes push into the 3rd dimension fracturing the image of the OP-1 advertisement printed on their faces. At night, the Crystalline installation comes to life with light and sound projected into the courtyard and onto the tessellated facade, creating a concert like experience in the space. By using lightweight materials and magnets to hold the installation in place the demountable structure is designed to move and can be disassembled to fit into a 4’x 4’x 8’ shipping container, making the advertisement easy relocate and reconstruct.

Deluge Brewing Company is a brewery and restaurant designed for a free-standing building in the historic Revolution Mills complex in Greensboro, NC. The design of Deluge Brewing Company’s interiors is inspired by its proximity to the flood plain of nearby Buffalo Creek. The image of a rectilinear building mass surrounded by fluid moving water inspired the conceptual idea of the dance between masculine and feminine line and style. Contrasting the distinctive industrial shell of the building, the interior boasts of lush and glitzy materials that transform the space into a posh early 20th century speakeasy.

At 500 square feet, the design of the Porous tiny house promotes synergy between interior and exterior environments with the exchange of natural conditions and human interaction. The house is designed around an equilateral triangular grid and uses pattern language to scaffold positive spaces throughout the home. Made with sustainable building materials and practices, the longest wall is oriented south-east to catch prevailing breezes and sunlight for passive heating and cooling, while the roof collects rain water for permaculture gardening. Using the equilateral grid as a motif, furniture and finishes were chosen that complimented or embodied the essence of porosity in its form and function within the home.

Inspired by Japanese Zen gardens, the meditation room scales the elements of the Zen garden to dwarf the user in the space, alter their perspective, and enhance their physical relationship to nature. Biophelic design influences every element of the room and is interwoven in the textures, colors, and patterns. The Zen rocks partition the room and create barriers for private meditation and the elements while the floor reflects the textures and patterns of raked sand. The outdoor garden features a living green wall, a small water feature, and additional meditation space with sand and stones.

The current Glenwood Coffee and Books occupies a section of the old Butler’s BI-RITE grocery store and hosts community events, performances, book clubs, and neighborhood association meetings. Inspired by the lines and textures of farms and factories, the redesign of Glenwood Coffee and Books connects to the neighborhoods roots in industry and agriculture. The interior layout was modified to better suit the activities already present in the space and gives the entrance abetter relationship to pedestrians and the street. This renovation proposal addresses the need for space that is flexible to facilitate both coffee shop and book store customers, and to host special events with large community gatherings.

The tri-LUME lamp was one in three products designed with Shiloh Dobie and Willie Tarver as a part of a collection inspired by tesselation and geometric forms. Using market research to guide our form, color, and material we set out to design a vessel, a light, and a hook. The tri-LUME is illuminated using LED technology and is constructed with recycled cardboard and corrugated plastic. This light is quick to manufacture, collapsible, color customized, and inexpensive.

Inspired by the craftsman column, the entrance sign, street signs, and bus shelters provide a visual continuity within Glenwood Neighborhood in Greensboro, North Carolina. The craftsman column motif promotes local identity, while enhancing pedestrian exploration and locate points of interest. It is composed of cedar and iron, which were two materials that historically were produced at nearby factories and mills. The street corner signs are meant to highlight areas of interest like parks and local business districts. While the bus stops would be placed at major connectors to provide shelter and valuable information to commuters with maps, points of interest, and bus routes.
