INTRODUCTIONDENOTED BY SYMBOL – Strange number &one of the greatest paradoxes of human thought.0 is neither a negative integer or a positive integer.Appears in middle of the number line.It is neither a prime number or a composite number. It is both a number and numerical digit used to represent that number in numerals.0 is used as a placeholder in place value systems.
History of zero
• It is said that zero originated or was created in these 3 places----
1. Ancient India. 2. Ancient Babylon. 3. Mayan Civilization.• Historians believed that it came in
existence from 458 AD.• Zeros were created at different times in
each of these civilizations.• Aryabhatta (mathematician-
astronomer)- known for discovery of zero.
HISTORY OF ZERO
• Aryabhatta invented the number 0.
• He was one of the world’s greatest mathematician-astronomer.
• He was the first mathematician to use the concept of zero.
• He used zero first time to define decimal system.
THE RULES OF BRAHMAGUPTA
IMPORTANCE OF ZERO
Indians invented me.Arabs took me to their homeland.Romans did not have a symbol for free
zero.Addition and more so is multiplicative are
terribly complicated.Invention of zero liberated the whole
world from the prison bars of abacus.
WITHOUT ZERO No number line represent or division of
positive and negative integer. No binary system ( computer not
possible). No calculation.
