Joseph D. Bouvier, MD, Joins Phoenix Children’s Specialty and Urgent Care –
East Valley Center
New Pediatric Specialist is introduced to meet the high demand for advanced
urgent care in East Valley
PHOENIX, Ariz. (July 24, 2009) – Joseph D. Bouvier, MD, has joined Phoenix Hospital’s Specialty and Urgent
Care – East Valley Center in Mesa, Ariz. The center, which opened 2007, represents the Hospital’s ongoing efforts
to make available its special brand of family-centered care to areas outside metropolitan Phoenix. In addition to the
East Valley Center, a new Northwest Valley Specialty and Urgent Care Center recently opened in Glendale. The
6,018-square-foot center located on Loop 101 and 51st Avenue in Glendale will provide care to the rapidly growing
Northwest Valley.
Dr. Bouvier graduated with his medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School, Worcester,
Mass. He went on to complete his internship and residency training in pediatrics at the University of Arizona,
Tucson, Ariz. Dr. Bouvier was in fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine at Baylor, Houston, Texas. Most
recently, he was in private practice in Glatsonbury, Conn., and was an adjunct professor at the University of
Connecticut School of Medicine, Farmington, Conn.
“We are pleased to have Dr. Bouvier joining us in the pediatric urgent care services at the Hospital’s East Valley
Center,” says Bob Meyer, president and CEO of Phoenix Children’s. “With school out for the summer and warm
weather upon us, outdoor activities such as bike riding, hiking and swimming expose our children to both injury
and heat-related sicknesses. These conditions place a high demand on the urgent care coverage we provide in the
East Valley and Dr. Bouvier’s presence will address the expected spike in activity.”
With a background in pediatric emergency medicine, Bouvier joins an experienced and knowledgeable staff of
physicians who offer a variety of medical services for infants, children, and adolescents.
“As an urgent care/emergency pediatrician, I enjoy caring for the acute needs of our children,” Bouvier says. “I
have a great deal of experience in orthopaedics, minor trauma, asthma care, envenomations (bites and stings), and
general acute care pediatrics, and endeavor to give the best care to all the children who walk through our doors in
the East Valley.”
The urgent care component of the center provides convenient medical coverage during the hours youngsters and
their parents need it most. Its medical team is part of the nationally renowned Phoenix Children's staff and offers
every child the world-class care people have come to expect from the Hospital.
Phoenix Children’s Hospital is Arizona’s only licensed children’s hospital, providing world-class care in more than
40 pediatric specialties to our state’s sickest kids. Though Phoenix Children’s is one of the 10 largest freestanding
children’s hospitals in the country, rapid population growth in Arizona means the Hospital must grow as well.
Phoenix Children’s recently announced a $588 million expansion plan to bring its special brand of family-centered
care to even more patients and families. The plan includes a significant upgrade of the Hospital's current campus,
an aggressive physician recruitment effort, and new satellite centers in high growth areas of the Valley. For more
