DIRECTOR'S NOTES
Welcome and hello! First of all, a thank you for supporting the Arts and for coming to a wonderful production here at SCT. I hope you are ready to
take a journey because I believe we have assembled an “amazing” show for you…Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. I have been blessed with an amazing, talented, smart, entertaining and fun cast who continues to grow and surprise me every day. Everyone of them brings an individual and unique factor to this show which gives it the quality it possesses. I also couldn’t have done without my gifted and overly talented crew, but special thanks go to Brian, Melissa, Jim, Elsa, Elaine, Mark, Edie, and Putsy. Joseph is the second British musical theatre show written by the team of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. Its predecessor, The Likes of Us, was not performed until 2005. It was based on the “coat of many colours” story of Joseph from the Hebrew Bible (Book of Genesis). This light-hearted show was first presented as a fifteen minute pop cantata at Colet Court School in London on March 1, 1968. It was adapted into a movie musical film starring Donny Osmond and was the basis for a British reality show, Any Dream Will Do, where they voted for the next “Joseph”. My intention for this show was to make it family friendly. My hope is that children can fall in love with the magic of theatre. So sit back, relax and let’s go way, way back, many centuries ago, not long after the Bible began.

2009–2010 Season
O nce again the Holiday Season is upon us, and we have the perfect family entertainment for you, Andrew Lloyd
Webber’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. We are very proud to have James Reed make his directorial debut at SCT with this show. You have already enjoyed James’ work as a choreographer on The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, The Full Monty and The Producers, and he has done an equally great job with Joseph. We also welcome a SCT newcomer, Mic Cutsinger, in the title role of Joseph. The rest of the cast is filled with remarkable talent, including a group of ten youth, most of them from our SCT, Jr. Summer Program. I am very pleased to recognize Marian Jacobs for securing $15,000.00 in sponsorships for this production. She is definitely a jewel in the crown of Stockton Civic Theatre. For their generosity as show sponsors, we thank Robert & Kathy Rishwain, Rupert & Yvonne Hall, Gregory & Noreen Basso, George & Norena Badway, John & Loretta Butorac, John & Bonnie Phillips, Cyril & Howard Seligman, and the Bank of Agriculture and Commerce. They have truly helped make the magic of theatre become a reality! Unfortunately, I won’t be seeing you at the theatre for the length of our holiday show. After producing and directing two Broadway musicals back to back, I am absolutely exhausted! Therefore, with approval from our wonderful Board of Directors, I am taking my first "real" vacation since I came here four years ago. I’ll see you after the first of the New Year, rested, relaxed, restored, and ready to go!

The Economics of Community TheatreOne might assume that with nearly all seats filled at every performance, a not-for-profit theatre would have plenty of money.
Unfortunately, the revenue from tickets covers only about 40% of the theatre’s total expenses. And, without the generosity of the many volunteers who donate their time and talent—from the actors and set builders to the ushers and stage crews—it would not even cover that.
For other needs, we must reach out to the community for funding of operating expenses such as insurance, building maintenance, office supplies and postage; as well as the many educational and cultural programs we offer beyond our main stage. If we are to continue to offer this expanded program of theatre arts, we must turn to you.
Become a Sustaining Member as an Individual For 55 years, we have been bringing artistic, live theatre to the Stockton area.
