• Fall 2012 – CHEMBIO 2AA3/2AO3 – Restructured the laboratory practices for thiscoursetoenhancethestudent learningexperienceandensureexperimentalsuccess.Developedauniformformat forallpractices,alongwithanalyst reportsheets forallpracticestobeusedinfutureyears.

• Winter2013–CHEM3AA3–WithinthecoursematerialIdevelopedaninquiry-basedproject titled “Theminiaturizationof analytical platforms”,where teamsof studentspick a relevant analyte and propose a miniaturized platform for its quantitativedetection in a complex matrix. This exercise makes students work from theconceptualization of an analytical technique, to how they implement it in aminiaturized format, to the testing and validation needed for its deployment as acommercial platform. This hasbeena veryuseful exercise, since it that has enabledstudentstogobeyondlearninghowananalyticaltechniqueworksandexposedthemtoareasofstudy(e.g.microfabrication)thattheywouldhaveotherwisenotexplored.Ihavecontinuedtorunthisinquiry-basedprojecteveryyearthatItaughtthiscourse.

• Fall 2013 – CHEMBIO 2AA3/2AO3 – Designed, optimized and introduced two newlaboratoryexperimentsforthiscourse.TheexperimentsexposeourChemicalBiologyUndergraduatestoLiquidandGasChromatographyinstrumentationandexperimentaluse. The laboratories focused on the determination of caffeine content in energydrinks, in the context of their impact on our health. Both experiments have beensuccessfully incorporated into the course. An optional component was offered tostudentstovisualizetheeffectofcaffeineinanaquaticorganismusingmicroscopy.

• 41st Southern Ontario Undergraduate Chemistry Conference, McMaster University,Hamilton, ON (March 30, 2013). SOUSCC is a unique conference, providing anopportunity for undergraduate chemistry students to present and discuss theirresearch,meetotherundergraduates fromtheprovince,and interactwithacademicandindustrialresearchers.Iparticipatedasanorganizerforthiseventandcoordinatedthewebsiteandprogrambookletdesign.

• Fall 2014–CHEMBIO2AA3/2AO3–Developed5 instructionalvideos that introduceexperiments that the students perform in this course. The videos were designed,recordedandeditedincoordinationwith3ChemicalBiologyundergraduatestudents.These videos aid the students in their preparation for laboratory experiments andreducethetimeneededtocompletethemsuccessfully.Thestudentshavefoundthevideos very helpful, as they reduced the stress of preparing for a laboratory. SomevideosarealsobeingusedinexperimentsfortheCHEM2LA3course.

• Winter2015–CHEM3AA3–Idevelopedlecturepodcastswheretheslidesandvoice-overwererecordedandmadeavailableonline.Thismaterialallowsstudentstoreviewthelecturematerialattheirownpace.Basedonend-of-termevaluations,thiswasthelearningaidthatstudentsfoundmostefficientandwouldliketoseeretained.

• Fall 2014-2016 – SCIENCE 1A03 “Investigating Science-Opportunities andExperiences” – ParticipatedwithDr. Saravanamuttu in thedevelopmentof a lecturethatintroducedfirstyearundergraduatestowhatChemistryis,whatourDepartmenthastoofferinundergraduateprograms,teachinglaboratoriesandresearch,andhowweteachChemistry.Myresponsibilitiesweretocoordinatetherecordingandeditingof videos highlighting research in our department, structuring the presentation andsynthesizing the information relevant to the areasof “SmartMaterials” and “Energyand the Environment”, and assembling together the presentation in Prezi, as a newandengagingformatforthedeliveryofthisinformation.

• Fall 2016 -CHEMBIO2AA3/2AO3–Developed5additional instructional videos thatintroduce experiments that the students perform in this course. These videoscomplete the collection so that every laboratory practice in the semester has anelectronic resource to be viewed by the students. These videos aid the students intheirpreparationforlaboratoryexperimentsandreducethetimeneededtocompletethemsuccessfully.Thestudentshave found thevideosveryhelpful,as they reducedthe stress of preparing for a laboratory.
