Organization Theory Assignment
Submitted byJorden Simick(2012B03)
Q1 ) Attending OT lectures is a waste of time as the subject matter has NO
practical relevance to the Management of Organizations. Justify this
Statement - (208 words)
Ans:
We've seen many popular approaches to management (Management byobjectives, T groups, Theory Y, Theory Z, diversification, participativemanagement) come and go with great regularity. According to Staw andEpstein's study of large industrialized companies in the United States, no
significant improvement in organizational performance were observedresulting from an association with some popular management techniques.Scientific Management theory claims that if this approach is adopted, productivity improvement can be achieved. Taylor assumed that workers(in this case, students) are motivated only by financial gains (in this case, marks). However, in reality, not all students are motivated by scoring highmarks, but also by social needs and personal egos.During our summer internship most of the students were told, Dont apply
your Text book knowledge here. Now focusing on this statement, theremust be a reason behind it. n numbers of theory can be formulated on thisbut again this will just be a theory with some random assumptions. So, my
point is a theory on organization management has its own credibility but italso carries a baggage of narrow application. Also there is no empirical evidence that application of these theories leadsto improvement in organizations performance so learning of these theoriesis a waste of time.
Q2 ) The goal of a Full Time B School Student is to produce Industry Ready
Business Managers & Leaders. (as professed by their vision / mission
statements) However, B Schools in India are far from attaining this goal as
hardly 20% of the B school students are found employable by studies such
as Meritrac's. One prominent cause mentioned by Meritrac in its report is
Institutional Isomorphism. You are the Director of SCMHRD, a prominent B
School. What Steps would you take to ensure that 100% of the students are
Industry Ready?

Root Cause Analysis (52 words)
- Reports suggest, recruitment by many firms from the campus has gone
down by 40% in 2012. One of the reasons says, lack of practical knowledge
is hampering growth of MBA graduates. Employers seek out for professional

than someone who quotes theoretical knowledge.
