available, adding that a survey would probably be conducted next year.

Since obesity and diabetes are the main causes of NAFLD, Tatyana Kour, a

clinical nutrit ion consultant, said a healthy lifestyle would prevent the onset ofsuch diseases and keep the body strong.

Most people should work toward being moderately active for at least 30minutes each day; exercises are essential because muscles are the biggest

tissues in the body, Kour said.

Promoting a healthier way of life and becoming more physically active canstart by incorporating short bursts of activity into daily routines and adoptinga nourishing balanced diet without skipping meals, especially breakfast, she

    told The Jordan Times.

Yesterdays lecture was part of a charity lunch organised by the Friends ofLiver Patients Society. The proceeds will finance the treatment of needy liverpatients.

    How is fatty liver diagnosed?

Fatty liver is usually suspected in a patient with the diseases or condit ionsdescribed above. The patient may have an enlarged liver or minor elevation ofliver enzyme tests. Several studies show that fatty liver is one of the mostcommon causes of isolated minor elevation of liver enzymes found in routineblood screening.

    How is fatty liver treated?

The treatment of fatty liver is related to the cause. It is important to rememberthat simple fatty liver does not require treatment, since it does not result indamage to liver cells. Obese patients with fatty liver will have reduction or lossof excess fat in liver cells, as well as in other cells in the body, if substantial

weight loss can be achieved. Good control of diabetes mellitus with diet, drugs, or insulin also decreases the fat content in the liver.
