As President of NRRH Makoto Ushihara Chapter I would continue a lot of the old traditions that are
working well, and introduce some new ideas where the chapter needs improvement. Overall, my goal
is to create a well-run chapter that will benefit the campus community through our four pillars.
Membership: Finalize and integrate the point system into the Makoto Ushihara Chapter Constitution
before the academic year begins, and include more incentives. Encourage members who have program-
ming requirements as an RA or in Hall Government to collaborate with NRHH (as long as the program
upholds at least one of the four pillars). Work closely with the Vice President of Membership to keep an
accurate record of the active members, encourage inactive members to return, and ask those who no
longer have interest to become early alumni.
Recognition: Email OTMs that didnt win sent out to their respective recipients. Continue recognizing
everyone who has made a positive impact on the residence halls. Assist the Vice President of Recogni-
tion to make sure emails are being sent out on time, and the OTM database is updated regularly. Also
assist in OTM writing workshops by planning them during strategic times (i.e. after all-staff) and brain-
storming incentives for people to attend.
Collaterals: Continue assigning a collateral to every member based on their strengths, but make the
requirments for each one defined. Apply incentives for completing collateral requirments, and for going
beyond the requirments.
Academics: Encourage academic leadership by holding more programs with the LLC, and recognizing
outstanding students in the residence halls. These will likely be semester or monthly programs utilizing
the LLC and other study areas in the res halls.
Service: Have community service programs and encourage members to hold programs that enhance
the campus and local community. This will entail holding more regular Culture of Clean and similar
programs, and also reaching out to students who are required to fulfill community service hours ( i.e. the
Greek community, students with internships).
Leadership: Present more oppurtunities for residents (and NRHH members) to become involved. Have
guest speakers at NRHH meetings to talk about local and global issues, and take ownership of where we
live.
Democracy: Vote within the chapter meetings on more topics discussed during executive board meet-
ings. In example, voting on which program would be best suited for April: a program recognizing themaintenance staff, or a program to encourage academic excellence.
In addition to voting I would like to utilize Facebook Groups to ensure active involvement between meet-
ings so members are continuously involved in programs, financial decisions, etc.
Conferences: Look pretty and represent SJSU proudly.
