By combining studies and extra-curricular activities, I have shown both my self-motivation and determination to achieve what I focus on. Organisational and communication skills have also been of great importance as these activities have involved working in large groups to solve problems under time constrained conditions. I am an extremely hard worker with excellent people skills and ready to take on further challenges where my skills will be put to the test. So far I have achieved stage averages of 63, 67 and 65 percent for years 1, 2 and 3 respectively. I hope to continue my run of good results into year 4 of my integrated Masters degree. Education University of York York MPhys Theoretical Physics (Integrated), 2013–2017 My degree has involved challenges which have developed various skills in communication and team work. Although primarily a theoretical physics degree, practical challenges have been incorporated into the 4 year course which has given me a breadth of experience associated with scientific research. Mathematical and computational techniques have been a primary focus in order to solve statistical, quantum mechanical and real-world physical problems. MPhys ProjectTitle: A new way of computing certain important wave modes in a tokamakSupervisor: Dr R G L VannDescription: This project involves the development of a MHD eigenmode code (in cylindricalgeometry) in Python/Fortran90 to simulate certain important wave modes of plasma in a tokamaknuclear fusion reactor.+ This project requires working closely with a professional plasma physicist with an entirely newproject for this year.

+ Proficiency in various programming languages and an understanding of when a particular pro-gramming language is favourable is also required.

+ This project involves the manipulation of Maxwell’s equations and comfortable knowledge ofvector calculus.

+ Furthermore, this project will involve the parallelisation of code in order to improve performance.

Work experienceEpson UK Hemel HempsteadTemp Jan 2011–Feb 2011

+ Worked on a sales desk selling projectors at the BETT show in London – the world’s leadinglearning technology event. Gained skills in working under pressure, time management, numeracyand dealing with the public. Also helped set up a meeting for salesmen from all around the world.

+ Worked in an office, in a seven person team, setting up spreadsheets involving the organization oflarge quantities of money. Software and time management skills were especially crucial here.

Arc Recruitment/Hospitality LondonBar and Hospitality Staff Member (part time) July 2013–Oct 2015

+ Worked at a number of events around London in large teams. Duties involved bar work, canapéwork and introductions.

+ These duties involved the need for both excellent customer service and arithmetic skills.+ An example includes work at a prestigious event in Manchester square in London. Work involvedintroduction, canapé and bar work for a large company celebration. Due to the prestigiousness ofthe event, perfect presentation and customer service skills were vital.

Voluntary work experienceAnglo European School IngatestoneAssistant Teacher Sept 2011–June 2013

+ Volunteered to help teach disabled children to read.+ This involved many situations that improved my ability to resolve temporary conflicts.+ Volunteered to help teach maths to children of all ages and ability.+ This not only improved my own mathematical skill but also my skills in communication anddiscipline.

+ Many out of class meetings were organised with students for private tutoring.

Extracurricular activitiesAtheist, Secularist, Humanist (ASH) society University of YorkLeader Oct 2013–June 2014

+ This society involved primarily the frequent debating and discussion of controversial topics.+ Being leader required the ability to delegate responsibility to other members of the society.+ Joining the society when I did required advertising to many new prospective members. Thisinvolved organising events via social media. This on top of a degree has especially improved myskills in time management.

+ An achievement of mine was the building of relationships between the ASH society and otherlarger societies. This lead to the organisation of frequent large debate events with over 50attendees.

+ Organisational skills were therefore vital for this position within this society.+ Being leader increased my confidence and communication skills when dealing with large amountsof people.

Travelling

+ I have a passion for travelling. I enjoy travelling both alone and with friends.+ Travelling alone to Japan for 3 weeks increased my confidence whilst also improving my Japaneselanguage level.

+ I have travelled around the world including various locations in Asia, Africa, Europe, Australasia,North and Central America.

+ I feel my experiences have made me open minded and appreciative of all cultures.

Music

+ I am very fond of listening to and playing music.+ I had piano lessons for 8 years and have previously had cello and singing lessons.

James College University of YorkSecond/Third Year Contact 2014

4/5

+ As a second/third year contact, I had the task of easing the transition of new students into theuniversity for their first year.

+ Jobs involved showing them around both the university campus and the city and looking aftertheir general well being for the first week.

+ This fairly demanding job, on top of university work, was a demanding role which required bothtime management and people skills.
