Overview

Page 4: Joliet Firefighters Local 44

Call your partner the day before your track to ensure no problems or accidental no shows occur.

If there is an IC, call him and find out if gear is needed and the uniform of the day (should be blue track shirt).

Your ambulance will be at the barn unless you have been told otherwise.

If raining keep checking for messages, if none SHOW UP.

Pre Arrival Duties

List

BAD BATTERIES

If working Chicagoland or Rt. 66 Take a VHF Radio

Take 2 Monitor Batteries

Page 10: Joliet Firefighters Local 44

Check the Monitor, Jump Bag, and Tag on Drug Box, if anything is missing look in lockers. Do not take anything from another bag or backpack.

If you take a supply and it is getting low, email Lt. Willard and Capt. Fox.

Checking Ambulance & Equipment

Page 11: Joliet Firefighters Local 44

If you are a Private, use the JFD TRACK AMBULANCE CHECK SHEET/MEDIC

If you are a Driver, use the JFD TRACK AMBULANCE CHECK SHEET/DRIVER

Both are a month long, daily check sheet. It should be on a clip board in the ambulance. If not, then get a new one from the folder by the fax machine. If it’s a new month, get a new one and put it on the clipboard in the ambulance.

Check and clean the ambulance. Check the dates of the equipment inside the

compartments on the ambulance.

Checking Ambulance & Equipment

Page 12: Joliet Firefighters Local 44

Depending on your venue will depend on the paperwork you need.

Chicagoland and Rt. 66 require a Special Event Form and an IDPH Form

Autobahn requires a Special Event Form an IDPH Form and a Release of Liability Form

Autobahn does NOT receive ANY paperwork. Autobahn ONLY gets the time sheet you sign when you

arrive. All Paperwork is in the folders on the table by the fax

machine. There should also be paperwork in each ambulance.

Check before you leave to make sure you have the right paperwork you need.

Choosing Proper Paperwork

Page 13: Joliet Firefighters Local 44

If you see any patient – Fill out the SPECIAL EVENT LOG.

If they were not involved in an accident and were not on the track and are a first aid, then they can be a Treat Release – SPECIAL EVENT LOG ONLY - No Refusal Needed

If they were on the track in any capacity and refuse, they are a BLS Refusal – Fill out the IDPH Form.

If you are working Autobahn then fill out the IDPH Form, HIPPA Form, and Release Of Liability Form. (Do not turn any of these forms into the Autobahn)

Calls & Filling Out Paperwork

Page 14: Joliet Firefighters Local 44

The Release of Liability form asks for an IDPH Run Number – This is the long number on the IDPH Form, NOT a run number from Joliet Dispatch.

If you transport anyone, then use the PCR if available. If not, use an IDPH Form. Make a copy for the Charge nurse. Keep Master for your PCR and RMS completed on your next shift, because a call was created by Joliet Dispatch.

When filling out the IDPH form – Only fill out the front 2 pages. THROW AWAY THE DOTS.

DO NOT GIVE ANYONE A COPY OF ANY PAPERWORK.

When your shift is over Fax your Special Events Log to Station 1 so they can pay you.

Take all of your paperwork (Special Events Log, IDPH Forms, HIPPA & Release of Liability Form) and put it in the folder for COMPLETED FORMS.

Take your Gas Receipt (print name and vehicle) and put it in the folder for GAS RECEIPTS.

Paperwork Filing / Sending

Page 20: Joliet Firefighters Local 44

Put all of the equipment (Jump Bag, Monitor, Drug Box, PEDS Box, Monitor Batteries, Joliet Radio, VHF Radio, & PCR) back where you found it.

Put all Batteries and Radios in chargers. Plug in the PCR. DO NOT LEAVE ANY EQUIPMENT IN THE

AMBULANCE.

Putting Equipment Away

Page 21: Joliet Firefighters Local 44

Plug in the ambulance. Clean the ambulance inside and out. We have

recently seen water bottles, pop bottles, and candy wrappers in ambulances, on the floor in the barn, and yes in jump bags.

The hours of pay are the times you are at the event, but you still must take the time to do the duties before and after your shift.

Secure the EMS room and exterior barn door.

Completing Your Shift

Page 22: Joliet Firefighters Local 44

The primary reason is to educate those of us that work a couple tracks a year and forget where everything is and what needs to be done.

The secondary reason is to educate those of us that are willing to get paid to be at the track, but don’t do our job before and after the event. The people in charge are not going to let things slide anymore.

I get more calls about the track than anything else. There is either equipment missing, things left in an unacceptable manor, or the wrong paperwork filled out.

When you work a track and don’t do your job after your shift, you are hurting the next crew, I REPEAT YOU ARE HURTING THE NEXT CREW!

Purpose Of This Presentation

Page 23: Joliet Firefighters Local 44

We have spoken to the Chiefs about this and the decision has been made there will be no more looking the other way.

It is not Lt. Willard’s job to clean up after us. If something is dirty and equipment is lost or not put away,

Chuck will notify Chief Randich and he will investigate to see if discipline is needed and we as your Executive Board will ensure fair and progressive discipline per our contract.

The problems at the track are out of hand and this is your union’s attempt to educate you and notify you that if you do not do your job at the track, there will be consequences.

The track is a great benefit. Lets protect it by doing the best job we can while we are there!
