Why take JIEB in 2007?There is an increasing recognition of the need to have peoplewith specialist knowledge and experience of handlinginsolvencies, and increased value in having staff with anunderstanding of insolvency procedure and practices.

If you are a member of a Recognised Professional Body (RPB), orhave satisfied the requirements of the IPA, or Secretary of Statefor Trade and Industry, your next step towards becoming alicensed Insolvency Practitioner is to pass the examinations ofthe Joint Insolvency Examinations Board.

The ExamThe JIEB are a set of exams with a practical emphasis, and areheld once each year in December. Candidates must sit theexamination through the relevant RPB or sponsoring body.

The examination consists of three papers;• Paper 1 - Liquidations• Paper 2 - Administrations, CVAs and Receiverships• Paper 3 - Personal Insolvency.

Each paper is 3 hours in length and consists of a mixture ofwritten and numerical questions on practical insolvency issues.The examination is open book and candidates are provided inthe exam room with a copy of Butterworths Insolvency LawHandbook.

The overall standard is equivalent to the final qualifyingexaminations of recognised accountancy and legal bodies.Candidates must pass all three papers.They may attempt all threepapers, or two of the three papers at their first sitting. If acandidate takes all three papers, but is unsuccessful in one of thepapers they will refer in the remaining paper. If a candidate takestwo papers at one sitting, and are unsuccessful in one, then theirremaining pass will not be counted.

JIEB Eligibility, Registration and EnrolmentThe 2007 JIEB will take place on the 10th, 11th and 12thDecember 2007. It is your responsibility to register with yourrespective Professional Body for the JIEB and to pay your examfee.This is not included in the BPP course fees.

JIEB ExaminationsYou are eligible to sit the JIEB examinations if you have either:• Satisfied the requirements of your Recognised Professional

Body• Satisfied the requirements of Secretary of State for Trade

and Industry• Satisfied the requirements of the Insolvency Practitioners

Association

Registration, Enrolment, and Exam DatesThe closing date for exam entries will be around the end ofOctober. Please check this date with your RecognisedProfessional Body. Candidates should submit their applicationform for the examinations through their professional body, theIPA or the DTI as appropriate. Confirmation and examinationdetails will follow from the JIEB examinations office.The Exam isheld at around 20 centres throughout the UK.

Your Examination results will be available around the end ofFebruary.You will be given an overall result of pass, referred orfail, and in relation to individual papers, whether you have passedor have a marginal fail, fail or bad fail.The pass mark for eachpaper is determined by the JIEB, but is no higher than 50%.

Distance Learning CourseOur distance learning programme can be used in conjunctionwith our classroom courses, or on a stand-alone self-study basis.You will receive clear and comprehensive 3 sets of study notes, awork programme, 3 question banks, 3 CDs and 3 sets ofpasscards, as well as 9 links exams and 3 mock exam (all to becompleted at home).The distance learning course does notinclude any teaching days.

Candidates studying by distance learning who wish to attendindividual tutorial days can book onto these at a set rate of £150a day plus VAT.Applications for individual tutorial days should besent in writing, along with a completed application form.

JIEB Accounts course (3 days)This optional course is designed to help those unfamiliar with theaccounts element of the syllabus, who need to develop skill andconfidence in approaching the numerical questions in the JIEBexams.

In London and Manchester we will be running 2 classes of thiscourse similtaneously.

The first course will be tuition based and will be ideal forsolicitors and those not fully confident in the basic areas ofinsolvency accounts.This class will move at a slower pace.Thesecond option will be an intermediate class, where anunderstanding of the basics will be assumed.This course will bemore question based and will move at a quicker pace.The coursein Birmingham will run at a medium pace.All three courses willcover the same areas, however, the pace of the courses will vary.

CostThis course costs £420 + VAT.Course price includes all study material.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to have reqistered for the exams to attend the courses?No, you can book onto and attend BPP courses at any timewithout signing up for the exams.

Does registering for a BPP course automatically mean I am registered forthe exam?No, registering for courses and signing up for the exam areseparate.To register for the real exam you must contact yourrecognised professional body.

Can I attend individual days from the link course?You can book onto any individual days or courses from the linkcourse at a daily rate of £150 per day.To do this, fill in thebooking form at the back of this brochure, and tick the days youwould like to attend, along with a cover note that these are theonly courses that you require.

Do I have to attend all of my courses at the same centre?No, BPP will offer you as much flexibility with your studies aspossible. If you cannot attend a course, and wish to swap to analternative, we will do this for you free of charge, providing thereare spaces on the course you wish to attend.

Is there a cut off date to sign up for a BPP courses?You can book onto a BPP course at any time. If you wish to jointhe link programme after it has commenced, we will reduce thecharge by the days you have missed.You can also book onto aDistance Learning Course at any time.

When is the cut-off point for new law being examined?All law passed up to 1st April 2007 will be examinable in theDecember 2007 sitting. Should any new examinable law bepassed after the BPP materials have been published, we willinform all candidates.

How long does it take to study for the JIEB exam?This depends on the individual. Some candidates have moreexperience in certain fields than others and require less studytime.The more time a candidate spends preparing and workingthrough the material the more chance of success they will have.Please contact us if you require further information.

I have started the course, but due to work commitments I will not be readyto sit the exams this year, what are my options?We have a very flexible policy regarding the deferral andcancellation of our courses. Please see our Terms and Conditionsfor further details.

Can I use my BPP Membership for JIEB courses?BPP Membership discounts are not applicable to JIEBexamination training, however we offer a vast range ofProfessional Development courses, some of which are detailed inthis brochure, where you can receive upto a 50% discount. Terms and conditions1. Full payment, or authorisation to invoice an employer, must accompany the Application Form.

2. Where BPP Professional Education has received authorisation to invoice an employer, the following payment terms apply:

- Full payment is due immediately if booking is made less than 30 days before the date of the Course

- If BPP Professional Education fails to receive full payment, the candidate may be refused entry to the Course

- BPP Professional Education reserves the right to charge late payment interest on any outstanding invoices, at a rate of 8% above the Bank of Englandbase rate

- BPP Professional Education reserves the right to recover any reasonable debt collection costs in connection with this Agreement

- The employer is liable for all unpaid invoices.

3. BPP Professional Education grants the candidate a non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use its products under the terms of this Agreement.This licenceterminates upon termination of this Agreement for whatever reason.The candidate warrants that they shall only use BPP Professional Education’s productsfor their own educational purposes and shall not, without BPP Professional Education’s prior written consent, copy, make available, retransmit, reproduce, sell,disseminate, licence, distribute, publish, broadcast or otherwise circulate its products (or any part of them) to any person other than in accordance with thisAgreement.The candidate shall fully indemnify BPP Professional Education in respect of any infringement of any intellectual property rights arising as a resultof their use of BPP Professional Education’s products in breach of this Agreement.

4. BPP Professional Education will despatch study materials on receipt of full payment or authorisation to invoice an employer in accordance with the followingdelivery guidelines:

- UK: delivery within approximately 5-7 working days of despatch

- Europe: delivery within approximately 6-8 working days of despatch

- Rest of the world: delivery within approximately 6-8 working days of despatch

5. BPP Professional Education reserves the right to cancel, reschedule, or change the location of a Course if, in the opinion of BPP Professional Education, suchaction is necessary. BPP Professional Education will notify the candidate as soon as the change is made. In such circumstances, the candidate has the optionto reschedule or to receive a full refund of fees paid.

6. All cancellations and deferrals must be made in writing.

7. Provided that at least 1 day notice of a cancellation of a Course is provided to BPP Professional Education in writing, a refund will be payable or thecandidate may transfer at no cost.

8. For cancellations notified less than 1 day prior to the Course, no refunds will be given.

9. Courses can be deferred to the next sitting if written confirmation is received prior to the course commencing. Courses will only be deferred upon receiptof a £200 deferral charge, which will defer your unattended courses to the following sitting and provided you with the new updated materials, please contactus for further details.

10. Under no circumstances are courses or study materials transferable between candidates.

11. The liability of BPP Professional Education for direct losses arising out of its negligence (other than in respect of liability for death or personal injury), breachof contract or any other cause of action arising out of or in connection with this Agreement shall be limited to the cash receipts from the candidate (oremployer).

12. BPP Professional Education shall not be liable for any indirect or consequential loss whether arising from negligence, breach of contract or otherwise.

13. The parties to this Agreement irrevocably submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts for the determination of disputes arising underthis Agreement.
