Family is considered to be the most essential
part of a person's life. Every individual is
taught about the importance of a family since
their childhood days.
There are two types of family systems – joint
family and nuclear family systems
JOINT FAMILY
• JOINT FAMILY
The family in INDIA does not consist only of husbands and wife and their children but also of uncle , aunts and cousins and grandsons
This system is called JOINT FAMILY or EXTENDED FAMILY system
The term joint family defines a family that extends beyond the nuclear family
Nuclear Family
• NUCLEAR FAMILY
The nuclear family
consist of a father
, mother and their
dependent child or
children
NUCLEAR FAMILY
is also known as
ELEETARY FAMILY
The family member
live together in the
same household

Joint family Nuclear family Joint family have more
people so more support in case of crises.
Joint family is more wealthy as more earners are in place.
More affection and love between family members
Better attention to individuals by different family members
Nuclear family make
members of family
more responsible .
Nuclear family provide
more privacy.
Small family have less
financial needs

usually a well
maintained family

As a large family every one have to live in a limited space
Jealousy is very common in people where they are living under one roof
It is very difficult for a person to keep privacy in joint family system as all people living together
The felling of safely
and security is lacking
among the member of
nuclear family
Full time care has to be
ensured for elders
which can prove to be
expensive
Child gets complete freedom in a nuclear family
where in joint family child gets attention from every
one
Childs each and every wishes are fulfilled where
in joint family child lean to respect everyone
child understand his responsibility earlier in his
life where in joint family it takes time to understand
the responsibility

Nuclear or joint families both have benefits and problem , they both have their own advantages as well as disadvantage.
It’s a matter of personal choice and also depends on time and environment .
A newly married couple would prefer a nuclear family but can more back with parents and siblings when become parents themselves .
