“College of the Albemarle Foundation serves a vital function – providing much needed support to the College and to students trying to improve themselves. The Foundation is a means for the community to connect with and support student success. Student success in turn feeds back into the success of the community.”

David GriffinFormer Executive DirectorCollege of The Albemarle Foundation

The word cloud on the cover was generated by faculty and staff’s response to the question “What one word comes to mind when you think about COA?” The larger the word, the more often that response was given.

Growth does not happen overnight and for the past 60 years, College of The Albemarle has built a stronger community for generations to come by serving our region through exceptional programs. It is with great pride, College of The Albemarle Foundation continues to support the college’s mission to transform the lives in our community.

College of The Albemarle provides a stepping stone for those students who wish to enter the workforce in a specialized trade or for students in pursuit of their next professional venture. Our dedicated instructors ensure every COA graduate is afforded the best education. I am honored to work with individuals and community supporters throughout our service area and beyond to raise money for student scholarships and college support. Together, we are presenting the possibility of college to those who may not have the financial means to achieve their educational goals.

The recent formation of the COA Alumni Association made history for the college; reconnecting with generations of graduates and listening to their success stories. These life stories will continue to be shared as we strive to meet the needs of a new era in higher education. We also partnered with Dare County to develop the Dare Gurantee Scholarship, a secondary scholarship that provides the funds for public, private and homeschooled high school graduates who meet the criteria, a free education.

Efforts are being made to reconnect with the many professionals who paved the way for the Foundation over the years to share experiences because, as we reach new milestones, it is important to have the history to build upon for the future. Our focus this year will be to increase our level of responsibilty to our students by persistently working to meet the needs of our local community who employ our students – expanding programs to meet demand, outfitting new learning facilities to support programs and overall collegewide support to offset costs not covered by state funds.

The Foundation was created to support the president and the college in its endeavors, and as COA approaches its 60 year anniversary, I am certain we are making a difference in the lives of our community. We are forever grateful for donors like you who make it possible for us to continue to grow.
