Together, they will work through a learning program designed to bring mentees up to the next level of project management professionalism. This program is especially useful for Project Managers who want to improve their "soft skills" i.e., communications, stakeholder management and leadership. The Mentoring Program also provides a way for entry level Project Managers who want to move up to the next level, to work one on one with a more experienced Project Manager who has "been there and done that". Project managers early in their careers will work with their mentor to seek advice, ask questions, and learn what’s beyond the PMBOK. Many will find that working with a mentor within the project management profession to be especially valuable. Seasoned project managers with 10 years or more experience may find the men- toring role to be meaningful and rewarding. They will have the opportunity to “give something back” to the profession. In “giving back”, they will work with professionals who can benefit from the lessons they’ve learned (often the hard way). JANUARY 2015PMI Insights

PMI Chicagoland, along with DePaul University, will host a Knowledge Sharing session Tuesday, January 20 on the subject Cyber-Security, beginning 5:30 p.m. till 8:00 p.m., at DePaul University’s downtown campus, 14 E. Jackson Blvd., Chicago, IL, 10th Floor, room 1001. JoAnn Becker, PMP, MSJA, MBA will facilitate this session.

The newest business risk is being hacked – a cyber-security breach, which continues to escalate in costs. Organizations must have a response plan assigning responsibilities for such an inci-dent. Project development is typically assigned to an executive with ongoing responsibility for all facets of this plan, including development, training, updating, communication, etc. Normally, this is not an Information Technology project under the Chief Information Officer (CIO).

The chief challenge is getting all stakeholders – especially key executives – to agree and support the plan, so that each of their organizations meet their responsibilities as outlined in the plan. For the project manager, it means managing expectations and influencing a diversity of stakeholders with a variety of goals.

This discussion group will address the comments and ques-tions of the attendees, providing all with firsthand knowledge and a fresh look at how to be successful and deliver a working enterprise cyber-security breach incident response plan.

Anyone interested in discussing cyber-security is welcome to attend. It is an opportunity to share your experiences, questions and to network with fellow project managers and those inter-ested in project management topics. This is a free community outreach program from PMI-Chicagoland.

If interested, please register at PMI-Chicagoland.org with a daytime phone, name, and 1 - 3 questions about Team Dynamics. If you are having issues with the website, send your e-mail to [email protected]
