Classes

Pegasus is linking in to the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad, we are taking the essence of the Olympic Spirit which is “to build a peaceful and better world and to reach for a dream – a dream that no matter who we are, where we come from; no matter what we look like or what hand life has dealt us; with hard work, creativity and dedication, we can inspire and motivate the youth of the world to achieve their dreams” (words adapted from Barack Obama on ‘Olympic spirit’).

For all of our courses starting in April 2012 we are taking the theme End of the Rainbow and encouraging young people to have aspiration, to know that it is important to have a dream, to feel they can achieve their dreams with the right support and encouragement and to explore what for them is at the ‘End of the Rainbow’.

Here at Pegasus our main activity is working with young people (Pegasus Youth Theatre Courses) plus young adults and older people (Kala Arpan, Catalyst and Drama 20+) from all over Oxford and the county making performances with professional actors, directors, musicians, designers and technicians. Over a period of weeks (the groups meet during school term times with occasional extra sessions for rehearsals in holidays), in groups of up to 20, an idea will be developed using a range of performance skills and techniques. The final result is a complete show for the public at Pegasus Theatre’s wonderful venue.

From November 2011, for 12 months Pegasus is celebrating 50 years of arts activities for young people alongside a programme of exciting new performances from local, national and international artists. To get involved, get in touch 01865 812 150 or boxoffice @pegasustheatre.org.uk

Celebrating 50 years of performance and participation Visiting artists, companies and members of our own

Pegasus Youth Theatre Companies are for experienced participants who are 14 and over. This programme offers opportunities to develop your skills to a higher level. Company members need to commit to one year but will be offered the option to remain in a company for two or even three years.

Create for Change is a three year project focused on our three Pegasus Youth Companies, one specialising in Theatre, one in Dance and one in Production/ Technical Theatre. Using the arts as a vehicle over three years the young people in each company will be enabled to become global citizens. By focusing on global issues and exploring them in a creative way our aim is to encourage you to develop your awareness of the wider world & to have a sense of your own role as world citizens. During the three years in the three companies you will be exploring a whole range of local, community & global concerns and creating performances & workshops which you will perform and deliver at theatres, in schools & at national & international festivals.

Over the three years the young people in each company will be creating artistic pieces that focus on issues of mental wellbeing, of food & justice and of cultural diversity.

This year the Companies will be presenting the performances they have made using the theme of mental health at the end of March. A double bill The Listeners, a play made with The Samaritans and Stuck a dance piece around claustrophobia and agoraphobia plays for a week from Tuesday 27 to Saturday 31 March.
