Important Events in the Life of John Brown

1800-John Brown is born May 9th in Torrington, Connecticut1820-John marries Dianthe Lusk with whom he has seven

children1832- Dianthe dies1833-John marries Mary Anne Day, who he has 13 children1849- John and his family move to north Elba, New York to

join a black community1855-John moves to Kansas to join his son.1856-John leads the Pottawatomie massacre, in which 5

men are killed1858-John announces plans to find a “freedman’s republic”

in Virginia 1859-John leads 21 men on a raid of Harper’s Ferry,

Virginia, and is captured. John Brown is hanged on December 2nd.
