JOHN 8:36

I. FREEDOM’S SOURCE

• As a Christian our freedom does not come from a declaration of independence it comes from a declaration of dependence.

Hebrews 12:2 “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of

our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

II. FREEDOM’S PRICE

• A Country’s Freedom– Men and Women who have given there lives

defending the freedoms we enjoy.

• A Christian’s Freedom– The Cross– Jesus was Abused

Matthew 26:67 “Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him;

and others smote him with the palms of their hands,”

Isaiah 53:5 “But he was wounded for our transgressions,

he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”

III. FREEDOM’S PURPOSE

• As a Christian we have been given freedom through Christ.

• A freedom that we are to use to Serve

Romans 6:18 “Being then made free from sin, ye became the

servants of righteousness.”

Romans 6:22 “But now being made free from sin, and

become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.”

Galatians 5:13 “For, brethren, ye have been called unto

liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.”

To serve God:

• You must first know him• You must become more like Him• You must live to set others free
