John 8:1-11 But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. Early in the morning He came again into the temple and all the people were coming to Him; and He sat down and began to teach them. The scribes and Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery, and having set her in the center of the court, they said to Him, Teacher, this woman has been caught in adultery, in the very act. Now in the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women; what then do You say? They were saying this testing Him, so that they might find grounds for accusing Him. But Jesus stooped down and with His finger wrote on the ground. But when they persisted in asking Him, He straightened up and said to them, He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her. Again He stooped down and wrote on the ground. When they heard it, they began to go out one by one, beginning with the older ones, and He was left alone, and the woman, where she was, in the center of the court. Straightening up, Jesus said to her, Woman, where are they? Did no one condemn you? She said, No one, Lord. And Jesus said, I do not condemn you, either. Go. From now on sin no more. The Surprising Jesus The hypocrisy of the Scribes and Pharisees Jn. 8:3-6 The scribes and Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery and having set her in the center of the court, they said to Him, Teacher, this woman has been caught in adultery, in the very act. Deut. 17:6-7 On the evidence of two witnesses or three witnesses, he who is to die shall be put to death; he shall not be put to death on the evidence of one witness. The hand of the witnesses shall be first against him to put him to death; and afterward the hand of all the people. So shall you purge evil from your midst. The Wondrous Grace of God For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirits, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. They which heard it being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last. Jesus was left alone and the woman standing in the midst. When Jesus had lifted up Himself and saw none but the woman, He said unto her, Woman where are those thine accusers? Hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee, go and sin no more. I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in darkness, but have the Light of life. Go and sin no more
