Faith In Christ Jesus : Faith is, first , that the character and motives of the Lord Jesus make Him worthy of trust. Second , having confidence in His ability to do just what He says He will do. Finally , taking of your self out of your own keeping and entrusting your self into Jesus’ keeping. 2 Timothy 1:12 is the perfect example of all three aspects of faith: (1) for I know whom I have believed , and (2) am persuaded that he is able to keep that which (3) I have committed unto him against that day. We are studying the Gospel of John, answering these questions: What is revealed of Jesus’ character or characteristics, motives, and abilities? What is indicated that you could confidently commit into Jesus’ keeping? John 7:1-24, “Seeking Glory” If you desire to please God, you will believe Jesus! Big Event, Big Opportunity! The Feast of Tabernacles (Leviticus 23:34-44) was similar to our Thanksgiving holidays, gratitude for the harvest and remembering our history. Perhaps it was better attended than any other feast due to the time of year. No better opportunity existed for Jesus to entertain a crowd! Big Misunderstanding! Jn. 7:3-5. Amplified Bible. “So His brothers said to Him, Leave here and go into Judea, so that Your disciples [there] may also see the works that You do. [This is no place for You.] For no one does anything in secret when he wishes to be conspicuous and secure publicity. If You [must] do these things [if You must act like this], show Yourself openly and make Yourself known to the world!” They did not believe the source of Jesus’ teaching (Jn.7:16). They did not seek to do God’s will (Jn.7:17). They did not trust Jesus’ character (Jn.7:18). They were not circumspect concerning the Sabbath (Jn.7:19-24) Big Moment! Jn.7:6-8. Amplified Bible. “Whereupon Jesus said to them, My time (opportunity) has not come yet; but any time is suitable for you and your opportunity is ready any time [is always here]. The world cannot [be expected to] hate you, but it does hate Me because I denounce it for its wicked works and reveal that its doings are evil. … My time is not ripe. Jesus offers a double argument to establish the authority of His message. First, Moses’ teachings were not of himself, just as Jesus’ teachings are not of Himself. Second, circumcision KEEPS the law while BREAKING the Sabbath law. If they accept Moses, then why not accept Jesus? If they reject Jesus, they must also reject Moses! All of John 5 applies here also.
