Faith in Christ Jesus:2 Timothy 1:12 defines FAITH as knowing the trustworthy character and motives of Jesus, and being confident in His limitless promise-keeping ability, and consequently committing yourself entirely to His keeping. We are studying the Gospel of John, answering these questions: 1) What is revealed of Jesus’ character, motives, and abilities? 2) What is indicated that you could confidently commit to Jesus’?

Preparing For Victory!John 16:1-33

Overcome, or be overcome! We must conclude that we can love the world as Jesus does, without being “of the world”. (John 15:19) This “all-or-nothing” conflict MUST result in one winner, and one loser! BE PREPARED: John 16:1-4Harsh conflict comes because they don’t know The Father or Jesus. Reminded of Luke 23:34, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”BE COMFORTED: John 16:5-15

No longer must ALL of us fellowship with Him, but now EACH of us will fellowship with The Comforter! He is our counselor, helper, advocate, intercessor, strengthener regardless of our locations!

Also, we are not lone witnesses. He carries home the guilt of the world regarding sin (unbelief rather than actions), righteousness (Jesus’ claims certified by His death, resurrection, ascension), and judgment (Satan’s authority, weapons, and abilities are broken by Jesus in Hebrews 2:9, 10, 14-18) !

Also, as we become able to comprehend (v.12), The Spirit will guide us, teach us, prepare us (v.13), reveal Jesus to us (v.14). You are never alone!BE WITNESSES: John 16:16-22

No longer as spectators are we to “see” Jesus (v.16). Now we are “on the team and on the field” involved in the experience! Childbirth illustrates the intensely personal grief (Jesus HAD to die for us) and joy (He’s alive and I’m forgiven…) of our salvation. This is our testimony to all who meet us.BE OVERCOMERS: John 16:23-33

In order to be an “over comer”, something must be overcome! You are not a mountain climber until you have climbed a mountain! Even after Jesus prepares us, supports us, guides us, empowers us, and abides in us (via Holy Spirit); we will endure great sorrow before great joy!

Be of good cheer. Jesus has already overcome the world, and He takes us with Him!
