Ferris High School and Beyond Plan The Senior Exit Interview

The Senior Exit Interview is intended to be a useful practice for a "real life" interview, encouraging our students to talk about themselves in a positive light and apply their experiences to their future.

#2 Students will bring supporting documentation to their Senior Exit Interview on May22nd. Examples: college acceptance letter or email, Military ID, pay stub or employment ID, Scholarship acceptance or email. You can use your phone or laptops will be available.

#3 Students are expected to dress in appropriate or professional attire suitable for an interview in their field of choice.

Exit Interview?

When is the Senior Exit Interview?

As a senior student, you have worked very hard at planning for what happens next year. Whether you will be attending a 4-year college or entering the workforce, everyone will eventually experience an interview. This is your opportunity to practice talking about who you are and how you plan on applying the skill and knowledge gained through your experiences to the real world. You will meet down one-on-one with a member of our Ferris High School T-2-4 team and present your High School and Beyond Plan using your supporting documents and SchooLinks account. Through your history class, you will visit the AUX gym and conduct your interview. You will be asked to locate each task and discuss the results. Interviews will be May 22, 2019.

What topics will be covered?

Student Discussion

• High School Goal, T-2-4 Goal, and Personal Goal

Student will explain the goals they set for the year and their progress toward meeting those goals. Possible Questions: How have your goals changed?

• Career Pathway Student will discuss the career are interested in, past and present, and discuss how their pathways has changed. Possible Questions: What career are you most interested in? What do you find most interesting about the career?

• College Aspirations Student will discuss the colleges they saved to schoolinks and how they determined which colleges they were interested in. Possible Questions: When you researched pathways, what were you looking for? Location, size, cost, major, etc?

• Declared Pathway (handout)

Student will discuss their declared pathway and what steps they have completed. Possible Questions: Which school are you thinking about attending? What branch of the military are you planning on entering? What kind of employment are you seeking? What skills will you apply to your job? What do you look forward to the most?

• College/Career Fair or Campus visit

Student will discuss any college/career fair they might have attended, the pathway representatives they saw, and information they gained. Possible Questions: Which representative offered the most relevant information?

• Resume (hard copy or electronic copy)

Student will discuss the resume they created and how they would use their resume in the future. (Hard copy required; electronic copy accepted)

• Focus Survey (SchooLinks)

As determined by the completion of the Focus Survey, students’ strengths were identified and pair with a celebrity. Possible Questions: Do you believe the themes to be accurate or inaccurate?

• Find Your Path Survey (SchooLinks)

Student will discuss the identified career clusters and thoughts around their results. Possible Questions: Do you think the assessment was accurate or inaccurate?

• Financial Aid Student will discuss their financial aid application status. Possible Questions: Who helped you complete the application? Did you attend any FHS workshops?

• Parent Conversation

Student will discuss parental perspective and any foreseen challenges or concerns with the students plan for next year.

• Scholarships Student will discuss any scholarships they applied for and any scholarships they might have received; or will receive. Possible Questions: What categories did you look through? What sparked your attraction to these scholarships?

• Create a Budget (handout)

Student will discuss their pathway and budget plan for after high school.

Presentation of Knowledge & Idea To complete the Senior Exit Interview, a student should:

Explain, examine and present documentation, supporting evidence of a clearly active pathway plan for after high school.

Student will dress in appropriate and/or professional attire, suitable for a formal interview within their field of choice.

Demonstration of prior developmental substance and organization.

In order to successfully complete the Senior Exit Interview, students must earn a score of 4 or 3. Students who earn a 2 or 1 must re-schedule another senior exit interview before June 6th.

Scoring: 4 – Exemplary if: • Information presented is thorough. • Student attire is appropriate and professional. • Presentation of material is clear. • Student is prepared and presented all supporting

documents.

3 – Proficient if: • Information presented is adequate. • Student attire is appropriate. • Presentation of material is generally clear. • Student is generally prepared and presented most

supporting documents.

2 – Emerging if: • Information presented is inadequate. • Student attire is casual. • Presentation of material is confusing or impromptu. • Student is marginally prepared and presented

minimal supporting documents.

1 – Basic if: • Information presented is missing or incomplete. • Student attire is inappropriate. • Presentation of material is inadequately prepared. • Student is not prepared and presented no supporting

documents.

What’s next? • After you complete your Senior Exit Interview you will complete the Senior Exit Survey. • Once you complete both Senior Exit Interview and Senior Exit Survey, you will

receive the Senior Clearance Form. This form must be completed in order to receive your cap/gown for graduation.

• The Senior Clearance Form includes: clearing all fines/fees, High School and Beyond Plan completion, and Grade clearance with teachers’ signatures.
