Primary Purpose of Job Capabilities
The Manager, Food Security & Natural Resources sets the strategic direction for and leads a team of highly qualified and experienced technical experts to drive forward World Vision Australia’s (WVA) program quality, innovation, thought leadership and advocacy in the areas of agriculture, nutrition, DRR, WASH, water and farmer managed natural regeneration (FMNR).

Day To Day Responsibilities (A typical day)
The role of Manager, Food Security and Natural Resources is an exciting leadership position within WVA. It has a critical role in shaping the strategic agenda of WVA’s technical programs and approaches. Through managing WVA’s team of sectoral experts in agriculture, nutrition, DRR, WASH, water and farmer managed natural regeneration (FMNR), you will drive and support multiple organisational priorities. These include ongoing development and innovation to deepen and extend technical approaches; technical backstopping of projects both in-country and remotely to ensure quality implementation and demonstration of impact; and support to program design, business development and acquisition.
As a member of the program development leadership team you will support other managers in setting the priorities and plans for the Department. You will also interface with other departments, such as program management and policy and advocacy to ensure there is alignment with technical capacity and support. You will take a lead role promoting and presenting WVA’s work externally to influence donors and key technical partners, to reinforce WVA’s position as a cutting edge development partner in food security and natural resources. You will also engage internally across the WV partnership to influence national, regional and global centre.

Strategic direction, planning and oversight
Lead Food Security & Natural Resources (FSNR) team in setting team priorities and plans to ensure delivery of relevant components of organisational priorities
Work with technical experts to develop individual plans for each sectoral area Prepare FSNR team budget with top-down parameters and maintain monthly oversight to ensure
budget is managed effectively Play an active role in the WV Partnership Global Centre Resilience and Livelihoods Team, in particular
helping to shape the emerging strategy and subsequent implementation plan

Support to acquisition, business development and program management
Collaborate with Managers of teams within the Program Development Dpt in setting annual requirements for technical support to meet key targets of income and impact
Work closely with technical experts in prioritising incoming requests for technical support Play proactive role in decision points such Go/No-Go’s, pipeline meetings, and proposal development Alongside Business Development teams, develop proactive plans to deepen private sector
partnerships in priority technical areas of expertise

Provide leadership and support to FSNR team in continuing to develop, innovate and extend technical approaches in our areas of expertise
Support FSNR technical experts to pursue opportunities for greater integration of aligned technical approaches within the team and drive greater integration across teams
Establish and lead internal processes (meetings, reviews, documents..) to facilitate a proactive focus on program innovation and the uptake of new technology

Directly represent, and facilitate team representation, in relevant external forums to enhance WVA brand and reputation as a cutting edge, progressive organisation in target sectoral areas
Collaborate with internal teams to build external influence through supporting the building of evidence; prioritisation of key areas to develop policy positions and advocacy with government and other organisations; and Social media and communications to develop products and media to reinforce technical capacity and expertise

Tertiary qualifications in science or engineering, or equivalent technical experience

5 – 10 years experience combining scientific/engineering skills with commercial know-how (e.g. in R&D, or consulting in primary/NRM/energy sectors)
Experience working with remote/developing communities
