An insight into my role as ’Gifted and Talented Coordinator’
In addition to my role as Elementary Fourth Grade Teacher, I also had the very important responsibility of creating, designing and implementing the Gifted and Talented policy. After school hours or in my designated break times, I wrote the policy, designed the teacher referral forms, drew up a practical action plan of how I would implement the policy throughout the academic year and started a register of identified possible students waiting for assessment.
I subsequently, sent out letters to parents introducing the new policy and asking for them to tell us about any outside achievements or special talents so that we could link the parents and local communities into our program. I successfully managed to organize one outside local event for the students, which went very well and the parents were extremely pleased that their child was being challenged further in an area they both exceeded and enjoyed.
I have attached some examples of these documents within my summary section (Linkedin) for you to view.
