to apply to the part outside the tank. 3) For threaded pipes, where allowed, the minimum wall thickness is to be measured at the bottom of the thread. 4) The minimum wall thickness for bilge lines and ballast lines through deep tanks and for cargo line is subject to special consideration. 5) For larger diameters the minimum wall thickness is subject to special consideration. 6) The wall thickness of pipes within cargo oil and ballast tanks in systems for remote control of valves is not to be less than 4mm. 7) For inlets and sanitary discharges see Pt. 3 Ch. 2 Sec. 11 K 100. 8) For stainless steel pipes the minimum wall thickness will be specially considered, but it is in general not to be less than given in Table A1

for pipes of copper alloys. 9) For air pipes on exposed decks, see Pt 3 Ch. 2 Sec. 11 K 300.

Notes:1 Where the thickness of pipes specified in standards does not comply with the minimum thickness in this

Table, the standard pipe may be used if the difference is 0.4 mm or less.2 Pipes are to be galvanized at least inside, except those fitted in the engine room.3 For pipes with a nominal diameter other than shown in this Table, their minimum diameter will be

considered by the Society in each case.

  • PIPING EXPANSION JOINT APPLICATION STANDARD (HULL PART)

    1. Type of expansion joint and application location

TYPE APPLICATION LOCATION TO BE APPLIED MAINLY FOR

Dresser type All type of pipe line below 16kg/cm. (except steam & condensate pipe, heating drain pipe and butterworth line.)

Cargo oil line, ballast line, pipe line running longitudinal direction on upper deck (cargo oil line, vent line, fuel oil line, compressor air line, water supply line, deck wash/fire line, foam fire fighting line, cable conduit pipe)

    Sleeve type

For big expansion required line such as steam & condensate line, heating drain pipe and butterworth pipe.

Upper deck steam line, condensate line, heating drain line, butterworth line

    Bend pipe type

To absorb the pipe expansion at the location where dresser type, sleeve type or bellow type expansion joint fitting is not used (mainly due to the piping arrangement). This type is widely used for small pipe below 25 nominal diameter.

    All type of pipe line

    Bellow type

Apply for the looation if bend pipe arrangement is impractical and the location required for normal inspection and is difficult to reach.

Deck machinery operation hydraulic oil line at hatch side. Fuel oil line and steamline inside pipe duct.

Remarks: Fire line for ship complied to B O T, fuel oil line inside pipe duct with DNV class are not allowed to used dresser type fitting. Generally sleeve type to be used.

    2. Expansion installation number of expansion joint.

2.1 Dressor type expansion joint - For pipe nominal size below 300A

1 piece is required for pipe length within 24M

    - For pipe nominal size above 350A 1 piece is required for pipe length with 12M

    2.2 Sleeve type expansion joint

1 piece is required for pipe length within 24M

2.3 Bellow type expansion joint - For steam line, 1 piece is required for pipe length with 24M - For deck machinery operation hydraulic line, 1 piece is required for pipe length within 40M

    3. Expansion absorbing rate for expansion joint fitting.

    TYPE ABSORBING RATE REMARKS

Dressor type 10mm Extension absorbing rate base on set length Sleeve type 80 mm Contraction absorbing rate base on set length

40 mm Contraction absorbing rate base on set length

Bellow type 70 mm 4. Piping expansion rate

    - Due to the deflection of the hull, the piping expansion rate will be 0.7mm per 1m length.

    - Due to the change of the temperature, the expansion rate base 1C, will be 0.012mm pper 1m for steel pipe and about 0.017mm per 1m for copper pipe.
