Jimmy McNichol (a.k.a. James Vincent McNichol, III) is an actor, musician, environmentalist, and co-partner in the entertainment production company Playground Entertainment, LLC. He has recently been named celebrity spokesperson for the nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation, Pet Power Kids.

McNichol is an internationally known television and film star and one of the most popular actors in the entertainment industry from the late 1970's through the early 1990's. He enjoys an international fan base still while his work continues to be discovered, winning over new interest yet today.

McNichol has appeared on countless magazine covers and was consistently the star of top TV and film productions; several of which were developed around him in the lead role He has worked with numerous Academy Award winners and nominees including Jill Clayburgh, Shirley Knight, Richard Jaeckel, and Susan Tyrrell.

In conjunction with the Pet Power Kids, McNichol is developing the TV series, Animal Rescue the Rockies; an animal welfare TV show documenting the process and suspense of rescuing animals in the Colorado Rockies; with a segment dedicated to the Pet Power Kids’ 501(c)(3) corporation and the nonprofit’s mission to save older shelter dogs and cats, those least likely to be adopted, from being euthanized.

In the interest of raising his children away from the limelight, McNichol moved away from Hollywood, but as they are now growing into their own, Jimmy is returning to his entertainment roots; family and sister Kristy, as ever, in the mix.

Now, McNichol is back with much to tell from his twenty year absence from the entertainment industry as well as behind-the-scenes stories from his days in Hollywood and his life as an A-list actor and former teen heartthrob. Concerning his stint in Hollywood, McNichol has seen and done it all and he has stories to back it that would put Rob Lowe’s memoir, “Stories I Only Tell My Friends," to shame.

McNichol dominated the TV and radio airwaves, as well as the movie screens. So strong was McNichol's worth as an actor, CBS chose him on three (3) different occasions, to go up against the long reigning top TV shows Happy Days and Laverne & Shirley. First, the 1 hour television drama, The Fitzpatricks, was created for McNichol, and put in the 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM time slot against ABC TV’s half-hour shows: Happy Days and Laverne & Shirley. Subsequently, CBS again used McNichol to battle Happy Days and Laverne & Shirley by putting his network variety special in the 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM time slot. Prior to that, CBS also put their faith in McNichol when they scheduled the 1 hour TV show created for him, California Fever, in the very same time slot.

In fact, CBS was right to gamble on McNichol, because each time ABC TV preempted Happy Days and Laverne & Shirley with the World Series, the ratings for both The Fitzpatricks and California Fever proved only a bit shy of placing #1 in their time slot.

In all, on CBS TV alone, seven separate TV programs were created especially for McNichol: two prime time TV series, (California Fever & The Fitzpatricks); three movies of the week; and two network variety specials.

CBS's TV show, California Fever, was created to star McNichol, with producer Mel Swope and the producers of The Partridge Family and The Dukes of Hazard. As a one (1) hour TV show from 8:00 to 9:00 PM on Tuesdays, California Fever was not only poised to compete against Happy Days, but also with Laverne & Shirley at 8:30 PM; a battle California Fever would later lose. However, California Fever went on to be the #1 show in the U.K. Still today, bloggers have been found around the internet stating that they still know the lyrics to the theme song to California Fever, which was performed by none other than McNichol himself.

McNichol went on to co-produce The Jimmy McNichol Special on CBS, with über-producer, and his then manager, Jerry Weintraub. Once again, McNichol was going up in the timeslot against Happy Days and Laverne & Shirley.

In addition to his recording deals and performing with his band, McNichol appeared on the Jerry Weintraub produced The Carpenter’s Christmas Special, on which he danced with Gene Kelly. He was also enlisted to appear in every edition of the Jerry Weintraub produced John Denver Celebrity Pro-AM for ABC TV’s Wide World of Sports. Subsequently, McNichol became lifelong friends with John Denver, who then became McNichol’s mentor and is to credit f o r open ing McN icho l ’s eyes t o environmental issues.

McNichol also appeared on The Osmonds Special, and was for years, one of the youngest network talk show hosts, hosting ABC’s Hollywood Teen, where McNichol interviewed extensive entertainment industry notables, including Janet Jackson; rock star Robert Palmer; and Peter Cetera from the band Chicago.

So popular was McNichol, the late Dick Clark, a legend, hosted his and his sister Kristy’s, RCA record release party at Studio 54 in New York City. Some of the guests at Studio 54 that night included Burt Reynolds, Brooke Shields, and Tatum O’Neal.

As a music artist, McNichol had major record deals with both Atlantic Records and RCA Records. Addit ional ly, McNichol produced songs for Michael Angelo, Footloose Records Europe, and opened live concerts for Steven Stills, and James Brown at the Universal Amphitheater, in Universal City, California. McNichol also performed live for the United States Secret Service during Pope John Paul’s World Tour in 1987, for which he also served as advisor of entertainment. McNichol and his Secret Service band went on to perform for President Bill Clinton’s birthday.

The music carried on further yet to the theater stage when McNichol was cast in the starring role of Danny Zuko in the musical Grease.

McNichol later began to focus on his philanthropic endeavors and went on to co-found UCLA’s Health and Media Research Center (UHMRC) with P r o f e s s o r D e b r a G l i c k , w h i c h encompassed building the new prime-time Television Programming and Green Business for media educational applications.

McNichol's last-most-recent regular roles, prior to his decision to focus on his family, included starring with Academy Award nominated actress Jill Clayburgh in The Jill Ireland Story, and the role created for him as a vehicle to showcase his musical talents on the ABC soap opera General Hospital.

Hollywood was still knocking at his door when McNichol married and had children, but when it came down to Hollywood vs. family, McNichol chose family.

With his incredible success and an impressive array of credits to his name, McNichol no longer needed to work when he opted to move away from California to raise his family.

Over the years, McNichol became a successful real estate investor and developer, spending time in France with his wife and children, and has become further involved in ecological issues, charitable foundations, animal activism, and other philanthropic endeavors. Durring that time, McNichol occasionally made a rare concert performance appearing at the Troubadour, The Whiskey, and the Roxy in Los Angeles.

Now that his children are of age, McNichol returns to his love of acting while furthering awareness to ecological issues and philanthropy -two of his lifelong passions. While away from the entertainment industry, McNichol and his sister Kristy have been a trending search on Google and other internet search engines. Having spent time investing in life outside of the spotlight developing yet another successful career as a real estate investor, in addition to raising a family, has added to McNichol's life experience, imbuing him with considerably more to offer as an actor and making him all the more marketable for his absence.

An animal activist, McNichol has made philanthropic work a priority during his time away from the spotlight, and has recently been named celebrity spokesperson for the nonprofit 501(c)(3) charity Pet Power Kids. McNichol will soon be releasing his new CD, Eco Warrior, designating part of the proceeds to the Pet Power Kids organization. McNichol is also performing benefit concerts where he will be giving away free promotional video DVD samples promoting ecological awareness and philanthropy.

The Pet Power Kids’ mission is threefold:

1) keeping animals from being euthanized;

2) helping kids become involved in volunteerism in their communities; and

3) increasing corporate involvement by raising awareness of the Pet Power Kids’ projects.

To complement this philanthropic endeavor, McNichol has developed, with Playground Entertainment, a television show entitled Animal Rescue The Rockies which will showcase the Pet Power Kids organization, inspired by the CNN Hero Awards. The Pet Power Kids is a movement to find homes for least-likely to be adopted older cats and dogs that are in animal shelters. The Pet Power Kids‘ efforts have shown an impressive 80% success rate at preventing dogs and cats from being euthanized.

When asked if he is worried about his acting ability being out of practice, McNichol quickly answers, "Not at all. I have been training as an actor and I am more than ready to start going on auditions,” McNichol recently stated in an interview. His sister, two-time Emmy Award winner Kristy McNichol, was the highest paid teen actress of her time, and Jimmy himself, the

second highest paid actor on television at the time he starred in the CBS television series, California Fever.

McNichol’s acting experience is unprecedented, having worked with some of Hollywood’s best, including several Oscar-nominated and Academy Award-winning actors; including

Jill Clayburgh, Shirley Knight, Richard Jaeckel, Susan Tyrrell, and Academy Award-winning producer, Roger Corman, produced the feature film Smokey Bites the Dust, in which McNichol starred.
