Conestoga Chapter extends our deepest sympathy to Joe and Sheila Rink for the recent loss
of both their daughter and grand-daughter. They, along with their son-in-law, were involved
in a serious automobile accident at the end of October. Their daughter did not survive. Their
son-in-law had serious injuries and the grand-daughter was air-lifted to Children’s Hospi-
tal. Unfortunately, after about three weeks, the grand-daughter passed away. Sheila indicat-
ed that some of her grand-daughter’s organs were donated to four other people. Sheila said
“it is a small comfort to know that the donations helped some other families”.
Thank You to Conestoga President, Christof Kheim, for once again hosting the annual Thanksgiving Dinner
at the Forney Museum. Christof is stepping down as president in 2016 but will still be very active in the
chapter. Be sure and read his final president message here in the newsletter. Wishing everyone a Merry
Christmas and Happy New Year!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
This Month’s Cover Studebaker The Studebaker Truck on this months cover belongs to long time Conestoga members Jim & Virginia
Hill. The Hill’s can been seen at many International and Zone Meets through out the year. They travel
the country in their 1956 Transtar Truck, taking the back roads to many events, including the Interna-
tional in St Louis this year. Jim & Virginia are some of the nicest people you will have the pleasure to
meet, always volunteering when needed, and are a great access to the club.
Conestoga Chapter President Message
Here's hoping everyone had a pleasant, peaceful Thanksgiving. Our Conestoga Club had a very nice potluck
gathering at the Forney Museum on the 15th with about 35 participants. Five Studebakers graced the front
lot at the Museum: 1957 President, Roger Zaner; 1961 Lark, Lori & Will Sander & Steve Doerschlag; 1962 GT
Hawk, Val & Jerry Hackman; 1963 GT Hawk, Joan & John Murphy; 2002 Avanti, Marilyn & Phil Scott. As al-
ways, the food prepared by everyone was excellent! A special "thank you" goes out to JoDee Studebaker &
Jim Kline who once again decorated and provided all the table service.
We also conducted our annual nomination of officers and the following folks agreed to remain in office for
another term: Secretary, Lori Sander; Treasurer, Sheila Rink; Sunshine, Kay Murray; Collector Car Council
Rep, Roger Zaner. Both the position of President and Vice-President/Tour Master were open with no one
initially volunteering to run. Without a complete slate of officers, there was mention of the Conestoga Chap-
ter possibly disbanding after 47 years of existence; a sad prospect indeed. However, our very new members,
Jay & Deborah Hokanson, graciously stepped forward and are willing to serve in those two positions, respec-
tively. Congratulations and THANK YOU! I would like everyone to know that Jay & Deborah do not own a
Studebaker nor have they ever owned one. They joined the Studebaker Club because they appreciate the
cars, but more importantly because they like the people & interesting activities in which we participate. As a
30-year member of SDC it saddens me to think that our Conestoga Chapter came within inches of it's life, all
because no one wants to assume a little responsibility and be an active part of the Club. Despite being one of
the younger members, I still recall a time in Conestoga's not-so-distance past when each office in elections
were contested by at least two candidates! If only that were still the case now!! Let's not forget that in or-
der to continue to enjoy such wonderful camaraderie, we must all do our part to help make the Club a con-
tinuing success and serving as an officer is an integral part of any organization. Onto December and January;
we have our Holiday Dinner at The Old Neighborhood on Sunday the 20th and the Annual Conestoga Chili
Cook-Off on the 24th of the first month in the New Year. Our chili competition will take place at the home of
long-time Conestoga members Kay & Jerry Murray; thanks for hosting the entire Club! Your board of direc-
tors will meet in January, sometime before the Chili Cook-Off, to plan the 2016 calendar of events. If anyone
has suggestions for an activity or would like to host, plan or organize a meeting, please contact me
soon. Several months are already planned with our annual traditions such as the brunch at Mount Vernon
Country Club in May, but we welcome new and unique ideas.
In closing I would like to take a moment and extend sincerest & most heartfelt condolences to Sheila & Joe
Rink on the recent and most tragic loss of their daughter, Lori & granddaughter, Amelia Elizabeth. Please
know you are in many Conestoga and other SDC members thoughts & prayers. We wish you the strength &
will to get through this very difficult ordeal and find the courage to go on despite such loss. Your Studebaker
friends care deeply and we want you to know that.
-Christof

Western Wheels Chapter
On Saturday, November 14th, several Western Wheels members met in Gering at the Fresh Foods park-
ing lot. It was a beautiful fall day and a great day to get our Studebakers out and drive them. We drove
west through Mitchell Pass and Scottsbluff National Monument and then onto Lyman, NE. We took the
scenic drive into Torrington WY where we stopped for a quick break. Then it was back to Scottsbluff to
the Prime Cut Restaurant where we had our evening meal and meeting. Members attending were; Dal-
las & Lucille Whiting in their 1958 Pick Up, Mary Miller in her 1960 Lark Convertible, Stuart Tritt in his
1984 Avanti, Don & Betty Steinwart in their 1952 Commander Hardtop, and Perry, Jackie and Corina
Meyers in their 1961 Lark Station Wagon. Wanda Mowry met us at the restaurant. Upcoming meeting
were discussed:
December 12th Christmas Party– Bring something for DOVES
January 9th—El Charritos
February 13th—Soup Supper, Wanda Mowry
Our sympathy goes out to Butch Feil with the loss of his wife Julie and to Eugene & Mary White with the
loss of their son Ronald.
