Overview• Ms. Reynolds 6th& 7th Grade Life Skills Room
• 11 Students, all with different IEP’s and
ability levels.
• Lessons focused on Life skilled based
literacy.
Lesson One• Need for students to be able to recognize
a formal business letter
• Each student received a copy of the business letter, and followed along by the transparency on the board
• Students then were asked to name specific parts of the business letter.
• Students were then given construction paper and cut out strips of the letter
• All students, with some individuals being helped separately, then placed the strips in the correct order based on the example business letter.
Lesson Two• Students had to fill in the blanks
of the letter template• Arrows were used as indicators
to guide the students on what to write on the line
• Students filled in the body paragraphs with how they wanted to improve as students
• One-on-one instruction provided by paraprofessional
• Assessment- accuracy of information written in letter
Lesson Three• Story Elements- characters/
character traits• Background knowledge- The
Three Little Pigs• Read The True Story of the
Three Little Pigs• Students will list and discuss
similarities and differences in character traits of the three little pigs and the wolf in both stories
• One-on-one instruction provided by paraprofessional
• Text-to-Speech
Experiences• Emotional connection between teacher
and students.• Individualization• Adapting to Middle school
