TheconceptofthisrecordingcameoutofaconversationIhadwithRabbiZalmanSchachter-Shalomi z'l, in 2001, after my father, of blessing memory, MitchellRobinson, z”l, left thisworld.Reb Zalman talked about having a CD ofNichumAvelim, songsto comfort themourner.At the time, I just wasn’t ready to face awholerecordingof thisgenre ofmusic.WhenReb Zalmandied,I thought, "WhydidIwaitsolong?Hewouldhavewantedtohearthis."SoIguessnowisthetime.
Ionce learned that,inanAfricancountry,whena childisborn theybring forthanewsong.Unfortunately,over theyears,deathhasalsowrittennewsongsforme.Deathisadetourandcantakeusplacesweneverknewwewouldgo;thatishowIfeelabout thismusic….Inever reallywantedtobehere.Butnowthat I amhere,Ihavetoacknowledgethebittersweetedgeofcreativity,comfortandmemorythesesongsofferme.Inrecordingthem,Ihopetheybringyoutoaplaceofconsolation,aswell.
