3.2 Selecting a locationAn optimal location will ensure accurate and reliable operation of the balance. The surface must be able tosafely take the weight of the balance when fully loaded. The following local conditions must be observed:

ImportantIf the balance is not horizontal at the outset, it must be leveled during commissioning.

• Operate the balance only indoors and at an altitude of less than 4000 m above sea level.• Before switching on the balance, allow all its parts to reach room temperature (+5 to 40 °C).

Make sure that the relative humidity is between 10% and 80% and non-condensing conditions are met.• The power plug must be easily accessible.• Firm, horizontal location as free from vibrations as

possible.• Avoid direct sunlight.• No excessive temperature fluctuations.• No powerful drafts.• Surroundings as free from dust as possible.

3.4 Connecting the balance

WARNINGRisk of electric shockContact with parts that contain a live current can lead to injury and death.1 Only use the METTLER TOLEDO power supply cable and AC/DC adapter designed for your

balance.2 Connect the power cable to a grounded power outlet.3 Keep all electrical cables and connections away from liquids and moisture.4 Check the cables and the power plug for damage and replace damaged cables and power

plugs.

NOTICERisk to the AC/DC adapter due to overheatingIf the AC/DC adapter is covered or in a container, it is not sufficiently cooled and overheats.1 Do not cover the AC/DC adapter.2 Do not put the AC/DC adapter in a container.

The balance is supplied with an universal AC/DC adapter and a country-specific plug.

Important• Install the cables in such a way that they cannot be damaged or interfere with operation.• Insert the plug of the power cable in a grounded power outlet that is easily accessible.− Connect the AC/DC adapter to the connection socket

on the back of your balance (see figure) and to thepower line.

ð The balance is ready for use.

3.4.1 Battery operationThe balance can also operate with batteries. Under normal operation conditions, the balance works indepen-dently of the AC power line for about 8 to 15 hours (using alkaline batteries).

Note: It is also possible to use rechargeable batteries. Charging batteries inside the balance is not possible.

Inserting / replacing batteriesYour balance uses 8 standard AA (LR6) batteries (alkaline batteries preferred).

Important• Do not place the balance on the pan support location bolt.• Battery warnings: read and follow all warnings and instructions supplied by the battery manufacturer.• Do not mix different types or brands of batteries. Performance of batteries can vary very greatly

depending on the manufacturer.• If you don't operate the balance with batteries for an extended period, it is recommended to remove the

batteries from the balance.• Batteries must be disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner. No attempt must be made to

incinerate or disassemble item.

§ Make sure that the balance is off before removing or inserting batteries.

1 Remove weighing pan, pan support and draft shield element or draft shield "100 mm" if present.2 Turn the balance carefully on its side.3 Open and remove the battery-chamber cover.

4 Insert / replace the batteries with the correct polarity asshown in the battery holder.

5 Insert and close the battery-chamber cover.6 Turn the balance carefully to its normal position.7 Reinstall all components in the reverse order.

3.5 Setting up the balance

3.5.1 Switching on the balanceBefore working with the balance, it must be warmed up in order to obtain accurate weighing results. Toreach operating temperature, the balance must be connected to the power supply for at least 30 minutes(0.1 mg models 60 minutes).

− Press On.ð The balance performs a display test. All segments

in the display light up briefly, WELCOME andsoftware version. Maximum load and readabilityappears briefly. (Startup FULL mode only).

ð The balance is ready for weighing or for operation withthe last active application.

3.5.2 Leveling the balanceThe balances have a level indicator and two or four adjustable leveling feet to compensate for slight irregu-larities in the surface of the weighing bench. The balance is exactly horizontal when the air bubble is in themiddle of the level glass.

ImportantThe balance must be leveled and adjusted each time it is moved to a new location.

Balances with 2 leveling feetTo level it, proceed as follows:

1 Position your balance at the selected location.2 Align the balance horizontally.

3 Turning the two front leveling screws of the housinguntil the air bubble is in the inner circle of the levelindicator.

Example

Air bubble at 12 o'clock: turn both feet clockwise.Air bubble at 3 o'clock: turn left foot clockwise, right foot counterclockwise.Air bubble at 6 o'clock: turn both feet counterclockwise.Air bubble at 9 o'clock: turn left foot counterclockwise, right foot clockwise.

Balances with 4 leveling feet1 Turning the two rear leveling feet all the way in.2 Adjust the two front leveling feet as previously described.3 Turning the rear leveling feet down onto the surface for extra stabilizing safety, so the balance cannot tilt

over under eccentric loads.

3.5.3 Adjusting the balanceTo obtain accurate weighing results, the balance must be adjusted to match the gravitational acceleration atits location and depending on the ambient conditions. After reaching the operation temperature, adjusting isnecessary.

• before the balance is used for the first time.• when the balance was disconnected from the power or switched off in battery operation or in case of

power failure.• after a change of the location.• at regular intervals during weighing service.

3.6 Adjustment (calibration)

NOTICEBefore adjusting the balance, it must be warmed up.

3.6.1 Fully automatic adjustment FACT

NoteOn models with FACT only.

The factory setting is fully automatic adjustment FACT (Fully Automatic Calibration Technology) with theinternal weight.

The balance adjusts itself automatically:

• after the warm-up phase on connection to the power supply.• when a change in the ambient conditions, e.g. the temperature, could lead to a noticeable deviation in

the measurement.• on a predefined time, see menu topic FACT.• time interval. (with OIML accuracy class II approved models).

4 Maintenance

4.1 Cleaning and service

Every now and then, clean the weighing pan, draft shield element, bottom plate, draft shield (depending onthe model) and housing of your balance. Your balance is made from high-quality, durable materials andcan therefore be cleaned using a damp cloth or with a standard cleaning agent.

To thoroughly clean the draft shield glass panels, remove the draft shield from the balance. Whenreinstalling the draft shield, ensure that it is in the correct position.

Please observe the following notes:

WARNINGRisk of electric shockContact with parts that contain a live current can lead to injury and death.1 Disconnect the balance from the power supply prior to cleaning and maintenance.2 Only use METTLER TOLEDO power cable, if these need to be replaced.3 Make sure that no liquid enters into the balance, terminal or AC/DC adapter.4 Do not open the balance, terminal or AC/DC adapter.

These contain no user-serviceable parts.

NOTICERisk of damage to the balance due to inappropriate cleaning methodsThe balance is made from high quality, resistant materials and can be damaged by certaincleaning agents, solvents or abrasives. If liquids enter the housing they can damage thebalance.1 Use only water and a mild detergent to clean the balance or terminal.2 Wipe off any spills immediately.3 Make sure that no liquid enters the interior of the balance.

ImportantContact a METTLER TOLEDO representative to find about the service options available – regularmaintenance by an authorized service engineer will ensure consistent weighing accuracy over the longterm and extend the service life of the balance.
