JESUS: THE PERSON, HIS WORDS, AND HIS BLOOD
The Rock 4/6/11 Mike Brown
If Christ died for any reason other than to cleanse us of sin, and give us eternal life, he died in vain.
Who we believe Jesus is, is the most important thing.
I. Who was Jesus?
We can’t just listen to others. Look in the Word, and find out for
yourself. Popular culture will always say
something different.
I. Who was Jesus?
Among the crowds there was widespread whispering about him. Some said, “He is a good man.”
Others replied, “No, he deceives the people.” But no one would say anything publicly about him for fear of the leaders.
- John 7:12-13
I. Who is this Jesus?
His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders, who already had decided that anyone who acknowledged that Jesus was the Messiah would be put out of the synagogue.
-John 9:22
I. Who is this Jesus?
Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”
-John 8:47
II. What do His words mean? They’re true.
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
- John 14:6
II. What do His words mean? They are not to be taken lightly.
“Consider carefully what you hear,” he continued. “With the measure you use, it will be measured to you—and even more.
- Mark 4:24
II. What do His words mean? Keep them
Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue;
- John 12:42
II. What do His words mean? Difference between life and death.
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
- John 14:6
III. What does His blood mean? Nothing but the Blood.
Why did he have to die?In fact, the law requires that nearly
everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.
- Hebrews 9:22
III. What does His blood mean? His blood is better.
The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!
- Hebrews 9:13-14
III. What does His blood mean?
So Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
- Hebrews 9:28
III. What does His blood mean?
For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.
- John 6:40
III. What does His blood mean? His blood granted us access to God.
The reason salvation is so easy to obtain is because it cost God so much.
