Jesus also gave his disciples (the
twelve and the seventy-two) theauthority to heal:
Matt 10:1-16 = Mark 6:7-11; 3:13-19 =
Luke 9:1-5; 6:12-16; 10:2-12): Jesus sends
out his disciples to preach, exorcize and to
heal. In Mark 6:13, it is said that the disciples

Luke 10:1-12: Jesus sends out theseventy-two, instructing them among

Kingdom of God has come uponyou." (See Matt 9:37-38; 10:7-16;
Matt seems to conflate the accounts
from Mark and the double tradition.)

* Healing in the ancient world:
In both Jewish and Hellenistic
cultures healing was a fixed part; thephenomenon of healing in the ancient
world, according to Kee's thesis, can
be divided into three types: medicine, miracle and magic.

Jesus healed all
who were brought tohim, not simply oneor two individuals at
different times. Jesus'ability to heal
universally wouldcertainly have
commended him tothe masses as anextraordinary
individual.
