James and Jessie were married in Mt Barker near where Jessie’s family lived. Kalyra in the Adelaide Hills has been the historic centre of our service history. The Kalyra Belair Aged Care home and Kalyra Heights Retirement Village along with the nearby Bellevue Heights village beautifully reflect our history with a mixture of heritage and modern building designs.

Reflecting our historical diversity, accommodation is also offered through five locations across Adelaide in our James and Jessie Brown Cottages, designed for simple, sustainable low cost living, enabling people to step out of risk of homelessness, supported by agencies, into a more secure future.

Today the Kalyra influence has spread well beyond the hills and Adelaide, to Woodcroft and McLaren Vale, with accommodation in the form of care homes well-established with their own personalities built around the residents, staff and volunteers and interacting with nearby villages.

We also provide services offering help at home for those in their own home or in independent living of any kind right across the Hills, South, Fleurieu, Murray Bridge and Victor Harbor.

If you are living in your own home, independently in a retirement villageor other accommodation, we can help you stay independent and enjoy life through our Help at home services.

Perhaps a little domestic help would make life more enjoyable if household chores are simply getting to be harder and taking up time you’d rather spend on other activities. Cooking, getting around, maintaining inside and outside – just changing the light bulbs can be daunting let alone cleaning the gutters!

It might be you just need some help while recovering from an illness or accident or you may want a regular ongoing service to help you support your partner or parent liveindependently. Whatever it is, we are here for you and willing to come and chat to hear what you want and find a way to do what you need doing.

We are looking forward to opening this in 2018 along with the community hub which will bring even more life, laughter and fun toWoodcroft.

Intergenerational programs

At Kalyra Communities, we have a number of programs in place that foster interaction between generations. We celebrate the great benefit that both residents and children receive from engaging in play activities and sharingknowledge.

Intergenerational programs include weekly playgroups and school visits with children from the very young through to those attending high school.

Aged care residents at Belair, McLaren Vale and Woodcroft all look forward to their regular discussions with the school children and the students often report on the amazing stories and wisdom that are shared by residents in the garden.
