Office of Admissions

Student Affairs

• CSU Fullerton has created a new Strategic Enrollment

Management (SEM) model for the campus.

• One of the recommendations from the new SEM was to split

Admissions and Records and create a stand-alone Office of

Admissions.

• The Office of Admissions was moved from Academic Affairs to

Student Affairs, alongside Outreach, Recruitment, Orientation,

Financial Aid and Education Partnerships.

• The move was effective as of January 9, 2017.

Basic Transfer Requirements • Upper Division Transfer Applicants:

– Golden 4 Courses completed (Oral Communication, Written Communication, Critical Thinking, Math) by the end of Spring for Fall admissions and end of Summer for Spring admissions.

– 60 transferrable units completed • If meeting units in Summer, a hold will be placed and only

allow 9 units.

– Meeting the GPA requirement for the term • The GPA requirement cannot be determined until after

application period has closed. • It is based on the number of applications received, quality of

the applicant pool and the budget for the term. • Highly impacted majors may have higher GPA requirements

than the area GPA requirement (local/out of local).

CSUF Verify Process (A20 hold)

• As of Fall 2013, CSU Fullerton has implemented a new process to verify GPAs,

transferrable units and Golden Four courses for all transfer students that are Auto

Admitted.

• All Auto Admitted Transfers will have a A20 hold on their record.

• The purpose is to verify the GPA they reported on their admission application, to

confirm they will have at least 60 transferrable units, and verify all Golden Four are

completed with grades of “C-” or higher or in progress for the correct term.

• To remove the A20 hold, they must send us via email [email protected] or fax 657-

278-1324 copies of all their unofficial transcripts.

• Students can accept their admission offers with the A20 hold still in place, but will not

matriculate until the hold has been removed.

• Over 200+ transfers have their admission rescinded from the verify process each year.

• And many more students were notified of their issues early enough to correct the

issues to keep their admission (unit shortage).

• Due to Cal State Apply implementation, we are behind in removing A20 holds.

However, all holds will be removed before Fall registration opens.

Page 14: Jessica Wagoner, Director of Admissions May 24, 2017 - Counseling at Fullerton Collegecounseling.fullcoll.edu/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2016/... · 2017-06-13 · • The Office

Admission Rescinds

• Non-Transferrable Courses

• Students truly think they have 60 transferrable units, but end up being short units due to non-

transferrable courses.

• We make every attempt to work with these students to get them into Summer courses to meet the 60

unit requirement as long as it is not one of their Golden Four courses.

• We have been able to save between 50-80 students each year by having them complete their units

over Summer.

• Proof of Summer enrollment must be submitted in order to allow Fall enrollment.

• If a student fails or withdraws from Summer school their admission is revoked. Since 2013, only three

students have been rescinded due to withdrawing from a course over Summer.

• Cumulative GPA

• Students misreport or miscalculate their cumulative GPA.

• Students will only report their last institution attended GPA.

• Most students with this issue will leave out the institution that will negatively impact their overall GPA.

• Golden Four Course Not Completed

• Students either do not pass or do not complete Golden Four courses.

• They report courses they did not take because they could not find the option on the drop-down.

• On occasion, students will report the same course twice for GE Writing and GE Critical Thinking.

Page 15: Jessica Wagoner, Director of Admissions May 24, 2017 - Counseling at Fullerton Collegecounseling.fullcoll.edu/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2016/... · 2017-06-13 · • The Office

Appeals Process

• If a student is withdrawn from the admission process for a missed deadline or

denied admission- they may appeal their admission decision up to 30 days

from date of official notification.

• There must be serious and exceptional extenuating circumstances and

supporting documentation to be considered for appeal.

• Types of appeals (UDT):

– Application Fee

– Acceptance of Offer

– College Transcript Deadline

– Enrollment Deposit

– Less than 60 Units

– Golden 4 Requirement

– Transfer GPA

– AA-T or AS-T Degree

Page 16: Jessica Wagoner, Director of Admissions May 24, 2017 - Counseling at Fullerton Collegecounseling.fullcoll.edu/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2016/... · 2017-06-13 · • The Office

• Students are given the link for the appeals website directly on their admission notification letter.

– All admissions appeals must be received by CSUF within one month

of the date of the „missed deadline‟ or „deny‟ notification from the Office of Admissions.

– Students complete a cover sheet, and are asked to attach a statement of appeal as well as documentation supporting their appeal.

– Students are notified of appeal decision within 2-3 weeks of submission.

Things You Need To Keep In Mind… • Transfer Degree can be Cancelled

– If a student changes their academic plan by either changing their major,

declaring a second major, declaring a minor, or declaring a second

concentration/non approved concentration will cancel the transfer degree

agreement.

• What does this mean when a Transfer Degree Agreement is cancelled?

– If a transfer degree is cancelled, this means that the University may no longer

guarantee that only 60 units are required to satisfy graduation

requirements, post-transfer.

– In regards to General Education, a student may be required to take

additional GE courses to satisfy unmet requirements, as well as possibly fulfill

additional major requirements.

• IMPORTANT NOTE: when a Transfer Degree Agreement is cancelled, it only alters

remaining degree requirements. A student‟s admission is not rescinded. This is a

CSU Fullerton policy only, not a CSU policy.

Redirection Process

• Only verified (in-progress or completed) ADT students are eligible for

redirection if they are denied to CSU Fullerton and are CSU eligible.

• Redirection cannot be done until we have finalized our GPA for the

term and have verified the student is a true ADT student.

• Due to the ADT systemwide deadline for the CCCs to post ADTs in

eVerify, the timing for redirection is late in the admission process.

• We redirect most applicants in Fall between April and May and Spring

applicants between November and December.

• Each CSU campus is directed by the Chancellor‟s Office to redirect

students to two specific CSU campuses. For Fullerton, it is SFSU

and CSUCI.

• Students are notified on their deny letters they have or will be

redirected and they also notified of the campus to which they are

being redirected.

Redirection Challenges

• The timing is very late in the admission process.

• It is very difficult for both the student and the receiving campus

with such little time.

• Major do not transfer over to the receiving CSU campus. We are

directing students for being an ADT denied student, but not

verifying the receiving campus offers their major.

• It slows down the admission process for these students we know

are not admissible, but cannot redirect until we get confirmation

of their ADT degree.

• Receiving campuses are struggling with the high volume of

redirected applications without the resources or time to process

them quickly.

eVerify – CSUF Custom Process CSU Fullerton has created an automated process to systematically load and code eVerify student data into our system. The modification we developed has four different processes within it.

Process 1: Data Collection

– After the eVerify deadline has past, CSUF pulls the data file of all community college data in the system.

– The new process will automatically code students that are getting their ADT in our system as verified ADT students.

– This new process allows us to code and clean up all ADT students from the eVerify site within 20 minutes, instead of 3 or 4 months!

Process 2: TRDG to TRDV

– This process runs nightly to identify all EDI transcripts that have been received to check if a ADT degree has been posted for students with ADT degrees in progress.

Process 3: Redirection Coding

– This process runs nightly to ensure all students that been redirected are coded correctly.

Process 4: TRDN Coding

– This process runs after the final evaluations are completed for a term.

– For all ADT students that had their degrees in progress, but never completed their ADT degree, it corrects their coding to indicate the degree was never earned.
