h e y Sometimes when I cannot sleep, I find myself staring at my

cacti. Something about their aesthetic balance, and ability to tough it through hard times really humbles me.

In my dreams I journey through spaghetti western ghost towns- searching for my idealized setting.

When I wake up, out my window, I see horses or horseflies in the alleyway, crowding under a fire escape. They’re wishing

it were a tree.

T r y a g a i n To not be satisfied, to lose confidence, to gain it back, to push yourself past what you believed to be a limit, to reach down in the depths of your creative mind and find the ideas that hide themselves- is to be in Frank Young’s graphic design class.

Many of the posters ended up being abstract or vi-sual statements on the ethereal quality of birthday.

D i s t i g u i s h Type is about context, taste, attention to detail, and fearlessness. In appreciating the importance of the hand’s touch, one learns about the importance of individual touch in digital work. Knowing what’s appropriate, and not being afraid to throw yourself into your work is what Gail Anderson’s class taught me.

Page 44: Jessi Brattengeier's sophomore book

c r e a t i v i t y Art is necessary for human beings to live. It’s the pro-cess of intake and outgo of information- the impression and expression of idea. Adrienne Leban’s class taught me something I knew at a subconscious level- that in order for there to be existence, there has to be differentiation. To pull from within onself and create with no expectation is to begin to understand originality.

c o n c e p t s To not worry about the product, and instead, to focus on the process. To play around with your wacky and creative mind, to express from within, and to illustrate a range of emotions playfully as the child in yourself- is to be in Richard Wilde’s class.

e n v i s i o nPhotography is a way of seeing, and a way to capture a moment. It’s about creating your own world in square frame, and is directly related to design. Utilizing design tools, as well as truly contemplating all aspects of an image is what I gathered from Abby Robinson’s class.
