JESSE DAVID MCGRADY CALL/TXT 949.478.0068 [email protected] 555 VICTORIA ST. #F COSTA MESA CA 92626 He was on many family road trips as a child. Sitting in the last of a three row minivan and staring out the window, he’d daydream about the stories being lived out in the country the family caravan sped past. Always holding the Minolta 35mm his father had given him, many of these stories played out as he looked through its viewfinder. He’d manually adjust the focus ring until the frontage road and telephone wire foreground blurred away, and the cinematic story of America moved crisply into view. Even at 14 years old, his negatives weave a narrative of family, adventure and country as if they were the surreal paintings of a life remembered- showcasing the candid world around a boy on vacation but articulated with dream like composition and lighting. These attributes have carried over into the artist today. His photography seems familiar and nostalgic, yet ethereal and utopian at the same time. His color sometimes seems excessive, but anchored to the past. Like the sunset on a childhood road trip, we know things can look this unreal sometimes... or at least they do when one remembers them fondly. -Ninestar Space 2011
