A LETTER FROM
THE MAYOR
ARTISTS’ STUDIO TOUR 2013
Jersey City’s Aritsts’ Studio Tour is backthis year on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 5 to6, with events beginning on Friday the 4th.
Hosted and organized by the Jersey CityDivision of Cultural Affairs and the nonprofitorganization Pro Arts, the annual event is a freetwo-day self-guided walking tour of galleries, exhibitions, artists’ studios, and art in publicspaces. The Hudson Reporter is a tour co-spon-sor.The tour showcases the work of professionalartists who live and create in Jersey City, butwhose art may be unfamiliar to the larger com-munity. While many sites along the tour routeare located downtown, organizers said there willbe several dynamic group shows in the JerseyCity Heights, Greenville, and Bergen-Lafayettecommunities.For the second year the tour will return to theBergen-Lafayette-based Tenmarc Building, at
430 Communipaw Ave., for its opening nightkick-off party and a series of weekend-longgroup shows. The kick-off opening night party, which is free to the community, will get under-way on Friday, Oct. 4 from 6 to 9 p.m.For the past nine years, Fourth Street Arts hashosted a day-long outdoor live music festivalthat has always coincided with Studio TourSaturday. This year the free festival will returnfor its 10th and final year, according to photog-rapher and festival founder Mike McNamara.“It’s just time to wrap this…event up, and thetenth is a nice place to do it,” McNamara told theReporter in August. In honor of its decade-long contribution to thecultural life of the community, the festival willgo from (roughly) 10 a.m. to 10 at night onSaturday, Oct. 5.
