The second is stability of life. Stability requires the monk to literally stay put in his monastery for life. He turns away from flitting from one entertainment to another, or from one community to another. Stability means putting down deep roots. It means blooming where you are planted. It means, "Don't worry about the things you cannot change. Instead, do what you can with what you have where you are." In a fast changing and mobile world the virtue of stability is necessary more than ever, and in building a Benedictine Option parish, stability is vital. For the local parish, stability means joining one parish and getting involved with that community in our stewardship, our worship, our prayers and our service However, it is an increasing practice for Catholics in the United States to belong to more than one parish and to worship at various parishes according to their schedule. It is as if the different Catholic parishes are franchise operations--like McDonald's--and folks just drop in to whatever parish seems to be right for that particular weekend. This kind of church hopping and church shopping does not build the commitment and stability that is required for real spiritual growth. Stability is linked with obedience because we cannot build stability unless we submit to the practicalities of the parish schedules and requirements. That sta- bility and obedience make up an important element in the spiritual life. Through stability and obedience we stop saying to God "I'll do it my way" and we start saying to God "I'll do it Your way." The vows of stability and obedience are the way we do this, and if it is some- times tough and requires self sacrifice, well, that's part of the deal! But it is through these times that we become stronger and learn more how to trust the Lord in all things. Finally, it is through stability that we deepen our spiritual lives. Stability is close- ly linked to contemplative prayer. In stability we learn to sit still. In obedience we learn to listen, and only as we sit still and listen can we learn to discern the still, small voice of the Lord in our lives. I therefore strongly encourage you to join this parish if you are not already a member, and to get involved and put down your roots into this community. The stability you eventually require will keep you rooted and secure when difficult storms arise. Your Pastor, Fr. Mother Teresa House

We have recently seen a record number of guests at Mother Teresa House. We often meet a great need with only a bottle of water, an emergency food bag and a few city bus passes.

No matter how meager our help may seem, we always try to have a listening ear and a compassionate heart. Many times, our guests have said that it was just nice having someone to talk to.

Are you willing to listen? Please consider volunteering one day a month for a few hours. Call 412-7101 Option 2 and leave a message.

You are invited to join other Christians throughout the Upstate to take part in our local 40 Days for Life effort from Sep. 26-Nov. 4. 40 Days for Life, an ecumenical prayer campaign to end abortion, began in College Station, Texas. It has expanded not only nationally, but internationally since its inception in 2007. There are two campaigns a year, one beginning on Ash Wednesday for 40 days of Lent. The Fall campaign begins on the fourth Wednesday of September. These prayer campaigns are initiated and organized at the grassroots level in communities throughout the nation and abroad. Prayer, fasting and public vigil at the abortion facility are key components. The National Organization requires anyone participating in a campaign sign a promise to conduct themselves in a peaceful, respectful manner. Many believe the Holy Spirit is using this movement to end abortion and at the same time bring people of many faiths together.

To find out more and sign up to help please contact Judy Masterson at 864) 506-0964. or go to www.40daysforlife.com/greenville Help to spread the word to others about this important life-saving effort.

An informational meeting will be on Wednesday, Sep. 12, at 7pm in Old Church.
