• Premillennialists look for a 1000 year reign of Jesus on the throne of David in Jerusalem• Jeremiah showed long ago that

Jesus could never rule on David’s throne on earth and prosper

Page 3: Jeremiah and Coniah

3

•I. CONIAH is the same as

JEHOIACHIN and JECONIAH

Jer. 24:1

• [1] The LORD shewed me, and, behold, two baskets of figs were set before the temple of the LORD, after that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon had carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah

Page 5: Jeremiah and Coniah

5

2 Kings 24:6-8• [6] So Jehoiakim slept with his fathers:

and Jehoiachin his son reigned in his stead.• [7] And the king of Egypt came not again

any more out of his land: for the king of Babylon had taken from the river of Egypt unto the river Euphrates all that pertained to the king of Egypt.

6

• [8] Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem three months. And his mother's name was Nehushta, the daughter of Elnathan of Jerusalem.

7

•II. He would be delivered to

Nebuchadnezzar and taken to Babylon

Jer. 22:24 – No favor shown to Coniah

• [24] As I live, saith the LORD, though Coniah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah were the signet upon my right hand, yet would I pluck thee thence;

Page 9: Jeremiah and Coniah

9Jer. 22:25-26 – God said Coniah and his family would be taken captive

• [25] And I will give thee into the hand of them that seek thy life, and into the hand of them whose face thou fearest, even into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of the Chaldeans.

10

• [26] And I will cast thee out, and thy mother that bare thee, into another country, where ye were not born; and there shall ye die.• 2 Kings 24:8-16

Page 11: Jeremiah and Coniah

11Jer. 22:27-28 – Coniah and his family would die in Babylon

• [27] But to the land whereunto they desire to return, thither shall they not return.• [28] Is this man Coniah a despised broken

idol? is he a vessel wherein is no pleasure? wherefore are they cast out, he and his seed, and are cast into a land which they know not?

Page 12: Jeremiah and Coniah

12

• III. Coniah would not have an heir on his throne who would

prosper (ruling in Judah)

Page 13: Jeremiah and Coniah

13Jer. 22:29 – God called the earth to witness what He would do to Coniah

• [29] O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the LORD.

Page 14: Jeremiah and Coniah

14Jer. 22:30 – Coniah was written “childless” as far as the throne was

concerned• [30] Thus saith the LORD, Write

ye this man childless, a man that shall not prosper in his days: for no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting upon the throne of David, and ruling any more in Judah.

Page 15: Jeremiah and Coniah

15

• NOTE – Coniah had children• 1 Ch. 3:17-18• [17] And the sons of Jeconiah; Assir,

Salathiel his son,[18] Malchiram also, and Pedaiah, and Shenazar, Jecamiah, Hoshama, and Nedabiah.

16

“write ye this man childless”

• “It simply means that no son or descendant of his will ever reign in any prosperity upon David’s throne situated in Judah.” Robert R. Taylor

Page 17: Jeremiah and Coniah

17

• “No child of his will ever sit on the throne in Jerusalem. He had children but not as respecting the throne. Zerubbabel, his grandson, returns from the exile, but not as a king ruling in Jerusalem.” Jerry Moffitt

18

•IV. Jesus Christ was a descendant

of Coniah

Page 19: Jeremiah and Coniah

19

Mt. 1:1

• 1 The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham:

Page 20: Jeremiah and Coniah

20

Mt. 1:11-12

• 11 Josiah begot Jeconiah and his brothers about the time they were carried away to Babylon.• 12 And after they were brought to

Babylon, Jeconiah begot Shealtiel, and Shealtiel begot Zerubbabel.

Page 21: Jeremiah and Coniah

21

Mt. 1:16-17

• [16] And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.

Page 22: Jeremiah and Coniah

22

• [17] So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.

Page 23: Jeremiah and Coniah

23

• Since Jesus was a descendant of Coniah, He CANNOT rule on the throne “in Judah”

Page 24: Jeremiah and Coniah

24

• NOTE – Zedekiah did reign after Coniah, BUT he was appointed by King Nebuchadnezzar, NOT God

Page 25: Jeremiah and Coniah

25

2 Kings 24:17

• [17] And the king of Babylon made Mattaniah his father's brother king in his stead, and changed his name to Zedekiah.

Page 26: Jeremiah and Coniah

26Ezek. 21:25-27 – God was not satisfied with Zedekiah

• [25] And thou, profane wicked prince of Israel, whose day is come, when iniquity shall have an end,• [26] Thus saith the Lord GOD; Remove

the diadem, and take off the crown: this shall not be the same: exalt him that is low, and abase him that is high.

Page 27: Jeremiah and Coniah

27

• [27] I will overturn, overturn, overturn, it: and it shall be no more, until he come whose right it is; and I will give it him.

Page 28: Jeremiah and Coniah

28

• The Premillennial teaching about Christ reigning on the earth is false

Conclusion

• God said there would be no more earthly kings on the throne of David in Jerusalem• The Bible says it, that settles it

and all men everywhere better believe it
